Ten Remix-Redux Only Flaw

Let me preface this by saying that I am completely overwhelmed with all the cool things Brendan uncovered in this gorgeous new mix.. I have always been skiddish of bands going back and sort of re-writing history so to speak... But when I heard this new mix it was like seeing a painting in person as opposed to having seen prints of it in text-books all my life.. So many layers that were hidden behind a wall of muddy reverb were brought to the forefront. With so much new to discover I know that we all are listening to every minute detail.. so with that in mind, and I am hesitant to even post this... I just have to ask... Has anyone else noticed the ONLY flaw with the new mix? In "Release" at :51 right when Ed sings "Feel the chill" there is a digital pop of some sort... I like to think of it as a beauty mark.. At first in my car I thought it was my cd, but then got home and checked the vinyl and heard it again... It is also in the snippet on Itunes.. I pulled my original cd of Ten and it isn't on there... I hope I haven't ruined the track for anyone.. :?:

ive heard something like that, i forgot where it was....
anyway, probably an original recording thing that they covered up while mixing and adding reverb.
what brendan obrien did was like taking the make up off of a super-model to reviel her unbelievable natural beauty, and sure she may have a tiny scar somewhere...Meadowlands, MSG 1, MSG 2 - '98 Jones Beach NY 1 + 3 - '00 MSG 1 + 2 - '03 Boston Garden - '04 Montreal - '05 Boston Garden 1, Meadowlands 1 + 2 - '06 Mansfield 1 - '08 (EV solo) Boston 1 - '08 Chicago 1 - '09 MSG -'10 Brooklyn 1+2 - '13 Central Park - '15 MSG - '16 Fenway - '16 Wrigley - '16 (RRHOF) Brooklyn - '17 Fenway - '18 MSG - '22 MSG 1 - '240 -
I agree with Dreamweaver. The only problem I had was that I got two sides od Side A & B of Drop In The Park. Other than that, it was an awesome purchase.0

I haven't noticed this myself but after 2 listens of the redux I'm convinced this leaves Parasher's version pissing in the wind.
I completely understand why the band were not entirely happy with his finished version and listening to every subsequent album with Brendan on the controls just sounded better, I remember a disagreement with a friend when Vs came out, how he though Ten was superior and I argued this sounded like how the band wanted to sound and that Ten was too produced.
While I still think both Vs, Vitalogy & Yield are superior my view of Ten has shot up with this revision. By losing all the reverb and echo the tracks sound so spacious and alive, I had a quick listen to the original version and put it off immediately.
While I've always had allot of time for Krusens's drumming, O'Brien has really made them sound so much crisper the guitars are a joy, also with all the overdubs gone you get to hear Jeff's wonderful bass and Eddie's vocals are so much more upfront. I don't know about the CD but the vinyl version sound awesome, i can imagine with the compression you would lose some of what I'm hearing but my view on the yuppy beer mat has has never been kept a secret and I can't imagine it capturing the feel this 180 gram wonder does.
While the un-initiated may bark what's the difference for someone who has had this album in his life for the last 17 years or so and knows it so well, the changes are so obvious and greatly welcomed. Ten now sounds so much better and will be hitting my turntable much more than before. After being neglected in favour of a rawer sounding Pearl Jam, I feel this version does more than justice to this album
I've never had a problem with the standard of the songs and this version just highlighted to me that practically every song is a great with more than few utter diamonds in there, it made me realise what a truly impressive début this is.
Welcome back Ten your rebirth is a joy to behold.0 -
^^^That hit the nail on the head. Me and a buddy listened to Ten redux the first time through and it dawned on us how FUCKIN AWESOME Ten is. It's just one great song after another. I would give every song on there an 8/10.
Greatest debut ever? Me and the previously mentioned buddy discussed this and we could only think of 2 in its league, song for song. Zep 1 and Appetite For Destruction.
The live wax is simply amazing. How does this compare to LO2L? I may pick it up if all live PJ sounds so sweet.0 -
its been so long since i listened to ten that i dont even know what the differences are with the redux version. i should probably listen to the other(old) version to hear whats going on. was anything done with the normal ten in the re-release or is this exactly the same mix from 91?0

It appears to just have been remastered, I completely understand how some won't notice but those who do will hope fully agree it's a great Improvement.
It would be interesting to think if this had been the mix originally, would the album been the phenomenon that it was, was Parasher's version instrumental in it's success?
I like to think that the songs would have shone through anyway but PJ never had that kind of success again, did Rick's original take guarantee this the radio play it got and the wide range appeal it received?
From a fans point of view I'm just glad they had the nerve to do this and this album sounds the best it has ever done!
I can't see them messing with the rest of the catalogue like this and VS just needs a good remaster and I'll be delighted when I receive my 180 gram copy whenever the next reissue is scheduled.
Do we think it will be this year?0 -
I didn't like how Jeff's outro bassline for Jeremy started running before the outro. Not a huge problem, but I like it appearing after everything else rests.0

So we have all heard Jeremy about a million times each. The final 1:30 leading to the climactic ending that has yet to numb me after all these years. However, after listening to the re-mix version...this portion just FELT different. It is about the placement of 'Spoken' superimposed over the music and as well as Eddie's growling. I only heard it once but enough for me that gave me a completely different vibe! I really do not want to listen to it again to see EXACTLY what is different but anyone else can fill me in on what is going on?!0

You must have missed the 2 volume drops during "Once" around the 2:00 mark.
