Different Versions of "Even Flow"

OK, this will definitely be a rookie question to many of you, but it's one I've never heard an answer to. Just a warning.

I was in 6th grade when 'Ten' came out, was one of the first cd's I owned. It had what I think is the first and most common version of "Even Flow" on it. But after the CD got all scratched to the point where it wouldn't play anymore, I bought my little brother's copy of 'Ten' off of him.

And if I recall correctly, his copy had the version of "Even Flow" that gets played on the radio to this day where Eddie yells at the beginning of the song and the song ends with Eddie saying something along the lines of:

"I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched me.
I died and you walked by and said, "No. I'm dead."" << (copied from stlyrics.com)

They're obviously both studio versions of the song. So I guess my question is, what was the deal with two versions of the song being released in the first place? Anyone have any knowledge or info on this?

Are you sure? I thought this version was only on the Alive EP (and the video)?

You are correct, bazzer. I've never heard of that version being on TEN -- just the Alive EP and video. I prefer that version to album version myself -- it fucking smokes!

And RVM of course. Maybe that's where the confusion is?

Ah, ok. It's on the Alive EP. Thank you very much.

Maybe I've just heard the Alive EP version so many times on the radio that I thought it was on an old copy of 'Ten'.

I do believe that this is also the version used for the video.

My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-12

Once Dave A joined the band they re-recorded EvenFlow. That's the version which I believe is more energetic. I believe they did this as an update to their sound, and probably even a good-will gesture to Dave A. ...too bad it's no longer played that way. They way it's played now it's just a bathroom break.

It was priceless watching from the floor at MSG at Ed's eyes darting from left to right as the people on the floor took the first chords of Evenflow as their cue to go to the bathroom. Play it the Dave A way, and it'll no longer be a bathroom break for me. :)

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I haven't quite experienced this in person yet so now I have another thing to look forward to when they tour again. Nice!
