  • PJ will beat tool...but i dunno ...i know nirvanna will beat STP but i'm not sure about the PJ Nirvana match up...i feel there are more nirvana fans than PJ fans...so nirvana will get more votes...but then again i'm a senior in highschool most people follow the media when it comes to older music and nirvana is more well-known than PJ in my peer group, so when it comes to those from that time, i dunno...

PJ def has my vote though...

EDIT: i'm surprised that nirvana is seeded at 5 and how STP is seeded above them at 4...i would have expected nirvana at 2 and STP at maybe 5...oh well

Not that it matters but Pearl Jam has never won March Madness on WMMR or previously in when it was on Y100.

They have come in second I think 6 of the last 8 years to Nirvana twice, DMB, Weezer Breaking Benjamin and Pink Floyd if I remember correctly. Last year was the first time they didn't make the final 4 when they lost to Tool in Round 2.

That Sucking Benjamin loss was a travesty! Listening to the DJs, they're like "well, PJ only lost b/c people weren't texting the right thing in". Like, they said "Text R for Pearl Jam!" or some nonsense, and everyone texted in "Pearl Jam" and they're like "nope, sorry, doesn't count." Matt Cord was fuming that night.

But I guess switching up the value to text in kinda forces people to listen and not just start texting from Lower East Uzbekistan when the clock rolls over.

I missed this particular round, but what a fucking joke.

I couldn't name you one Tool song. MMR rarely plays them. Just what you want, an A to Z of Tool, although I'm sure they won't go all the way

I'm still reeling that Bob Marley beat the Who

I can't believe they lost to Tool 2 years in a row. This is a huge pearl jam city and the 3 rock stations play a significant amount of pearl jam. 104.5 played Porch unplugged yesterday. I hear Tool occasionally but not that often. I don't get it.

Both bands have a huge following and apparently Tool fans vote more than PJ fans in these stupid contests... as apparent from the last 2 years....

  • Oh well, I voted and PR put me on the radio. They lost by 57 votes, always next year.
If they did win, what should the essential Pearl Jam A-Z include?

    Red Misquito
    Low Light
    Faithfull

Not sure, probably about 40-45 straight songs.

I know when MMR does their A-Z week, Pearl Jam has the second most songs of any band in their playlist behind Led Zepplin plus Matt Cord hosts the 7 pm to midnight shift when the A-Z would happened so he might have just said screw it and played 5 hours of PJ because he's a huge fan.

  • No doubt they would play a ton of PJ songs. I was just wondering the songs they would include as an essential part of the A-Z. Matt Cord would have played a SICK Pearl Jam A-Z during his show.

seeing as how the tenclub at 10 got shelved, i dont think matty has that kind of pull over there.

he also has changed the way he announces for the sixers to sound all hip and new and stuff. not a fan...

I think you got that backwards. About 90% of the music that is played on 104.5 I can hear on any other radio station in philly. I like WMMR but it's not my fav. Personally I think yrock/xpn is the best radio station in philly. You'll hear "alternative/indie/modern" rock stuff that no one around here plays.

Totally agree. I can't stand MMR. Don't get me wrong, it's cool that they're all over PJ's cock. But Preston and Steve should be shot dead where they stand.
