PC Keeps Freezing Up

Over the last week, every time I try to burn a DVD my PC freezes up. I've used the same program, DVDFab Platinum, for over a year with no problems. It always happens during the first phase where the disc is copied to my computer. It usually freezes up around the 10 minute mark. I've asked for help on another forum and was told to try all of the following: flash my BIOS, update all drivers, download Advanced System Care free v3, CCleaner and Malwarebytes to make sure I don't have any bugs or registry issues, submit a HijackThis log...I've done all of those things and still have the same issue. Any thoughts?
System Specs:
Dell Inspiron 531
Vista Home Premium 32X
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 GHz
2 GB Ram
180 GB free hard drive space

I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

yeah its a dell, got a problemo right there
Anyway, try using DVD Decrypter if you are burning ISO's and Nero if VOB's.
If changing the software doesn't work and you've done all that then you may have just crap DVDs or you could have a hardware problem.0 -
I've reinstalled DVDFab. I've used it for over a year with no issues. I used DVD Decrypter previously but didn't care for it as much as DVDFab. The DVDs I use are Verbatim so I know it's not because of crap discs.I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

Have you at least tried a different software?
Get the trial of the Nero website.0 -
I've run a bunch of tests and re-installs and run various software but still have the same issue. I'm wondering if it's an issue w/ my burner. It's about 18 months old and has been used a lot. I'm looking to find a good replacement for it on Newegg. The model info from Dell doesn't give a brand but says it's Half Height but I'm not finding anything like that online. Any thoughts? BTW, I'm also upgrading my RAM to 4GB.
EDIT: I took out the burner and it's an LG model GSA-H31N. The drive looks like it's standard width (I measured it to be 1 5/8 inches in height).I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0
