converting a vhs tape to a dvd

I was married a hundred years ago, so our wedding was videoed by amateur friends and family. I need to copy the tapes to dvd. Have you done that and what software do you recommend? I've got some other REALLY important VHS' that I cannot part with, that's really why I want to do it. I don't sit around watching my wedding videos. As for the other ones, I would cry if I could never watch them after my two surviving VCRs finally croak.
P.S. I have multiple dvd players, so please don't make fun of me for having vcr's.

And I know I can find software online, but I want personal recommendations.

    you probably already have the software on your computer. if you have xp or vista, windows movie maker is on there. you just need a capture card/device. if you dont have any of them, i bet someone you know has this. i know people that do this on the side. pretty simple. take a look here.

    if all else fails, you could probably find a place near your place that would do it for a reasonable cost.

    hook it up to your vcr and record away


    if i want to do advanced editing, i record to my dv camcorder and capture to my computer and use adobe premiere elements for editing

    that looks like the one I got from QVC!!
    Now I just need to take the time to transfer my shit! :D
    (and hope it plays on other DVD players!)
