Repairing convergence IC on a rear-projection HDTV

Has anyone attempted doing this? My 51" tv has the "3D" look and my attempts to manually converge the images have failed. From what I've read/have been told, this means the IC's need replaced and will correct this problem.

It costs about $300-$400 to have this repaired, and I found a repair kit for $60 on the web, and have found individual IC's for $10 each. So, if successful, I can repair this meself for $20-$60.

Any advice, experience, etc?

PS - if anyone is aware of online references, feel free to post t hem. My experience is that I'll find something, but then they are trying to sell me something, so of course I question their agenda.

    general instructions on repairing the IC convergence. I have no experience doing this and without knowing specific TV brand and model can't offer any specifics.

    If it helps, it is a Philips 51PP9100D/37. Thanks for that link, I'll check it out.
