Ever call in sick to work when you really aren't?

every now and then. in my circus-like atmosphere of a job, when people would call out, creating more work for others, it'd be referred to as "gifting someone up"..Reading 2004

To me, nothings worse than wasting a sick day being sick.
It's all about the music...

I've only had to do that on days when my children were ill and I needed to stay home to take care of them.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0
-
I have gotten up, gone to work, realized that I absolutely couldn't stomach it that day, bellyached about being ill and then gone home....kinda like the kid who forgets about a test and plays sick to get out of itAll I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all0 -
I tend to get burnt out every once in a while and take a 'mental health day' to recharge the batteries. Not technically a sick day but I always feel better afterwards...I smile, but who am I kidding...0

i really should do this from time to time!! in the 5 years that i've been w/ my company, i've only taken 1 sick day...this year and only b/c i had strep throat and didn't want to get anyone else sick!! i don't even take all of my vacation days!! i'm having trouble trying to figure out when to 13 days off between now and july. i should stop working so hard.0

I've called in hungover and/or otherwise incapacitated (when I was working as a bartender). I've always been lucky enough to work in small companies or have been self employed, so I've never really had sick days. If I needed time I took it, but the work was waiting for me when I returned.

I used to heaps. I would 'chuck a sickie'(as we call it in Australia) when I was well, and work when I was sick.
At the moment my sister is my boss so I can't chuck a sickie, hell I even work when I'm crook.Sydney 11/02/2003

Oh, that should be easy. Just go to your boss and say "Pearl Jam tour, I need 13 days off."DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

I think it's easier in some office jobs where the work needs to be done but isn't particularly urgent. My last job, there were a lot of strict deadlines and short timeframes to do them in so calling in sick would have really left them in the shit. I know people go on about working as part of a team blah blah blah  but when it really IS teamwork, you're not so tempted to call in cos you don't wanna hurt the team.AmentsChick wrote:Not at my current job (as a nanny)...but when I worked in a bullshit office setting I did on a regular basis. I'll agree with you there. It's all relative. In my last job (accounting) the majority of my work was really flexible, it just had to be done by the end of the month. However, if it was urgent and necessary I wouldn't have called out so easily. This is the greatest band in the world -- Ben Harper0 -
never! :P
yes, i do...probably not enough as I have about 35 sick daysThese cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -

The "sickie" is a national pass time in Australia. My husband says that days off are wasted on being sick!!

A couple of years ago my brother took a sickie to catch the State of Origin (a huge rugby league match) and was horrified when the next day he and his mates were on the frontpage of Brisbane's largest newspaper drinking beer on tables in front of a pub up the road from where the game was being played. He had a bit of explaining to do to his boss... lucky he has the gift of the gab!“The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.” Mark Twain0 -
i think i did once last year. i feel guilty doing it  and i'm afraid if i do then i'll actually get sick afterwards lol mental health days are so necessary though. i try to arrange a day off when i'm starting to feel overwhelmed. i should do that soon actually...i'm getting there!0

I had a similar thing- was caught on the lead item footage of all the tv stations' evening news, at the front row of the official Socceroos celebration after a huge match back in 2005.littledee wrote:The "sickie" is a national pass time in Australia. The boss figured out I'd be sporting a hangover that day, the day after the match, just not to spend the day out partying with random fans from all over the country

I have so many sick days built up though. I got an e-mail from the personnel department recently about the fact that I'd lose those old days if I didn't use 'em. It made me feel like I SHOULD be taking some days off!!&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0

all the time. at my old company where i was a manager, my boss didn't really give a shit. so, yea, i took full advantage of it. :twisted:www.myspace.com0
