oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

damn, i've only seen one on the list....quite unusual for me. frost/nixon will be seeing this weekend. i'd like to see the reader, hubby probably not....also would like to see milk, but he's already seen it. could always go on my own, but we like to spend our weekend time together so we shall see. hopefully i'll see em all before the oscars, either way tho...no biggie. i really want to see doubt, LOVE merryl streep and phillip seymour hoffman!
interesting too...guess they worry about the academy having short memories
...b/c it seems most oscar nominated films get released around the holidays, so they're nice and fresh for awards season. Stay with me...

well of the major contenders, I've only seen Milk and Frost/Nixon. Frost/Nixon was great... Milk tried to hard to be great but was seriously missing something... although I've a feeling Penn might win, but he shouldn't. Frank Langhella was much better in Frost/Nixon... but again I can't comment on the others. The girl in Frost/Nixon hasn't a chance though... it'd be interesting to see Robert Downey Jr. win... for a spoof role, he played it splendidly

Actually I've seen half of the wrestler... and it wouldn't be a bad idea for Mickey Rourke to win... would be a shame for Langhella though.
GREAT to see In Bruges get a nomination though
It deserves to win something! The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
Chicago 07? And love
What a different life

just saw frost/nixon and the wrestler over the weekend. i honestly do not see why mickey rourke was nominated for a best actor oscar....i found the whole film predictable. as to frank langella, excellent performance....but the film itself, good....but not great imo. still need to see milk, the reader and slumdog millionaire, but of those i have seen...i think benjamin button is IT thus far.Stay with me...

That was the first thought I had when I saw previews for Benjamin Button. It looked like the kind of epic made solely with the Academy in mind... not of interest to me. Frost/Nixon looks ok, but I find that political films almost always sound more interesting than they actually are. Case in point: good Night and Good Luck. Charlie Wilson's War would be the exception proving the rule.
Milk was excellent though and Slumdog and the Wrestler both look fantastic. I'm planning to see them soon. Also need to see Doubt.
I was so happy that Downey Jr got nominated for Tropic Thunder... he was utterly hysterical in that flick. One of the best comedic performances I ever saw. That said, Ledger's Joker was one of the greatest movie villains of all time so I hope he takes that one.0 -
I thought ledger was good but overrated... but he'll win cos of the whole ya know, dying, thing. I agree about Downey Jr. I think it would be great if he won... but then Hoffman  was fantastic. It's a pity Ledger died, cos I'd be very interested in this category otherwise.soulsinging wrote:
