Youtube file size

OK, so after fighting wiht teh sign-up thingie, I finally went to upload a short, and I mean short clip, but the file size was too large, at 194 MB, I think I saw a limit of 100MB, but could not find that again to check.

WTF ?? I mean , this was not long clip. It was recorded on a Canon digital camera, nothing outrageous. How do you erither keep teh file size down, or reduce ti ??
