When I use the internet a new window opens up advertising all sorts, sometimes 3 a minute. Anyone know how to stop this? I've had 3 while typing this. This has only been happening over the last 2 weeks.

Hmm, I don't think there are any pop ups on this site which means you've probably got adware. Which is basically malicious software that constantly advertises at you at an unbearable rate.
You can use an adware remover like this:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
And that should rid you of problems, but I've never had adware (famous last words I'll bet) so I'm unsure of how good it is, but it seems to be trusted, so things should be fine.
If that doesn't work, then download the google toolbar
http://toolbar.google.com/T4/intl/en-GB/index_pack.html
Which has a pop up blocker which can at least hold them off before you start taking serious action.
You might want to do a scan using Norton, or whatever virus protection you have. But basically, I'm 90% sure that you're problem is adware/spyware, so as long as you look up ways to get rid of them, you'll overcome the problem sooner or later.no matter where you go,
there you are.

But if it is Adware (very probable) then leaving it could be potentialy malicious.no matter where you go,
there you are.

Heh, slight misunderstanding. My fault for phrasing it wrong.
I meant that adware that isn't dealt with can turn potentially malicious. Pop up blockers may work (Yes, Ad block plus is awesome) but you can't just leave a problem like this just stay there.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.no matter where you go,
there you are.

Sorry people, I haven't looked in here for a while. I tried a few packages that did a free check on the computer and found a host of problems. Eventually I bought for about $25 Spyware Detector. http://www.maxspywaredetector.com/?gclid=CJSIlpT44Y8CFQ5BMAodo2yS9g
This scanned deep into the system and cleared everything and also runs in the background. Each day it lists how many spyware threats were quarantined (normally 10 minimum).
The computer now runs with no problems. Best $25 I've ever spent. Thanks to you all for your help.0 -

It costs money to run a website and all free services either have explicit ads in the form of popups and banners, or they log your activity and tailor ads to you in more covert ways like Facebook, Myspace or Google. It's sort of the price paid for using the service.
Spyware/Adware is common with freeware and pirated software, otherwise you shouldn't really have to worry about them.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire0
