people think hd sells or means quality, but really the only thing they sell is image. if you are happy to pay for a lesser product, power to you.

On our way to LA for EV, a guy passed us on the 210. He was splitting lanes and his poor gf was perched on the back of his rice burner. I looked over at my wife and asked "what do you think her heartrate is, right about now?"
You are basically sitting on a plastic toothpick with only the good sense of your driver between you and death.
That said, I trused both my ex (and my friend that died) with my life..which is why I rode with them. I always cringe when I see a crotch rocket rider doing stupid things.. makes the responsible ones look bad.0 -
Thats right, a motercycle is dangerous by nature, but having a responsible rider is the difference between those who ride for 5 years and those who ride for 30 years.*Marker in the Sand Fanclub * HNIC

and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions

I love cruiser style bikes, but am totally turned off by HD's because EVERYONE and their grandmother rides one. I don't like to follow the crowd...
I went my own way, customized a big Kawasaki Vulcan, and love it.

Sadly, you were right. I work with a kid who bought CBR600RR within the last month. Guess what happened, the day before yesterday? Yep, he dumped it.

i don't, but i love them...the look, the sound, everything about them. especially harleys.satansbedbugs wrote:Was just wondering how many board members ride motercycles? I am in the beginning stages of getting my motercycle license and am looking to get a Harley Davidson ( The Only Bike ) Sportster or Dyna Glide. I have been looking into getting a bike for some time now and feel at this point in my life, it is time to venture into that era. I have always believed that life is too short to not do the things that you dream about. My family has a lot of bike owners and would like to join the club at some point. Please feel free to share thoughts, experiences, and ideas here. I have NEVER seen a thread on AET that discusses this topic and am lookin forward to your responses.

I ride a harley, I have a heritage classic.
Not sure why others say they are un-reliable, I do proper maintenance on my bike and have never had a problem with it.
All these metric cruisers are harley rip-offs in case you haven't noticed, a guy at work has a Boulevard, think its suzuki and it was modeled after a harley heritage classic.
I see a few guys at work with metric cruisers and they make me laugh every time as compared to one their bikes one guys vespa sounds bad-ass.
To the original poster, if your going after your motorcycle license I suggest you take one of those motorcycle safety classes.
I took one when I first wanted a bike, they are usually 2 full days of learning riding basics on actual bikes and a 3-4 hour class session.
You get your license from the class if you can complete a small easy obstacle course0 -
honda cr 125
does that count?they call them fingers, but i never see them fing. oh, there they go0 -

you're kinda right. hd's used to have a horrible reputation for constantly breaking down. not so much anymore, though. my father-in-law has had a harley for the past.....8, 9 years now, i think? he's traded in once in that timeframe, but with both bikes, he's had no problems at all. all his friends have harley's too, and none of them have had any complaints about maintenance, upkeep, or breaking down.
to the OP: buy what you want to buy. if you want a harley, get one. don't go crazy and get an 1100cc. start small, like someone mentioned earlier. i think you said you're looking at the sportster model, which would probably be the best bet for you, being a beginner. the prices of brand new sportsters are very easy on the bank account. just make sure you ride safe and take proper care of your machine. just like anything else, the better you take care of it, the longer it'll last for you. good luck and post some pictures if/when you get one."Have you ever.........pooped a balloon?"

Crotch rockets = organ donors
A few years ago I witnessed the most horrid accident with my own two eyes and actually had to dial 911. I sat with a 19 year old boy while he died waiting for an ambulance. He was trying to catch up with his 2 friends and T-Boned a car making a left hand turn RIGHT in front of me. I'll never forget it.
I mean, you could say the same thing for Harleys, even a freaking Vespa. But it was the saddest, most awful thing. :-("Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. "

That's sad, but was it the bikes fault?...The truth is they are very hard things to master...whenever I ride I'm very very easy on it.
I openly admit that I get scared sometimes. I also understand the laws of laws of physics.
anyway, I'm loving motorbikes. love them even more with the currect price of fuel.
Ducati 1098 or BMW hp sport will be my next choice.
