High School Reunions

So I just found out my 10yr high school reunion is being planned and I guess will be coming up sometime soon.
Can't decided if I want to go. I didn't really like most of the people I went to school with but can't help to be curious what they are doing now b/c they acted as though they were better than everyone else.
What do you think? Do you have any stories from your reunion?

Sounds like you shouldn't waste your time going.peacegirl wrote:Can't decided if I want to go. I didn't really like most of the people I went to school with but can't help to be curious what they are doing now b/c they acted as though they were better than everyone else.
I wouldn't bother going to mine, either.0 -
i have never gone....and no regrets. i've had a 10th and a 20th! reunion, not even remotely interested. anyone i wanted to stay in touch with i did, anyone else....i am simply not that interested/curious to see them again now. for me, makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
i have no interest to revisit the past, life is all forward motion for me.
if you decide to go, ENJOY!
Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow0 -
I went to my 10 year last summer. I was debating about going but one of my friends was helping organized so I felt obligated.
It was cool to see a couple of people, but mostly it was pretty dull.
Also, if you're on facebook you can just 'friend' anyone you're curious about and then delete them after you look at their pics and stuff! By being on facebook, I felt caught up with everyone before I got there, and pretty much ended up hanging out with the people I'd already kept in touch with anyway.0 -

You're right, Facebook has made reunions completely unneccesary. Leave it for the "hometown heroes" that never left town and married their high school sweetheart who is almost certainly a hairdresser. Not that hairdressing is bad, but it seems like a common theme......I'll end up alone like I began...0 -
I just got my invite and it was like $75 to go! I didn't know that you had to pay for these things! That's a ton. I had no reason to ever want to go and the fact that it's expensive makes that decision a whole lot easier!Go Get 'Em Tigers!0

Oh yeah, I forgot you usually do have to pay. Thanks, that might be my deciding factor!0 -
I'm not bothering going to mine, I never went to the prom or the diploma ceremony, and facebook makes the high school reunion irrelevant.1998 ~ Barrie

if you don't get a witten invite, I wouldn't go.
The way it is organized is like a giant chain letter.
one group of organizers mail and writes as many people of who they keep in contact with, then those people get in contact with all of their friends that they still keep in touch with and so forth and so forth.
So if you don't personally get a letter in the mail or aninviteby phone, it's probably most likely that there will be very few people's company that you actually enjoyed in high school.
But then again, my high school class had 700+ people, so your organization method might be different.0 -

my class only had around 150 people I think, so you're probably right about the organizing0 -

I haven't been to any of mine and have no plans to go.The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.0 -

You have to pay?? :eek:0 -
I went to mine. It was funny. But, not necessarily worth it. You'll have three types at the reunion.
Type 1: I was not cool in highschool, but I've been waiting ten years to prove that I am. Here's my chance.
Type 2: I was cool in highschool and have never let go of highschool. Everything I do revolves around who I was in highschool. These people are obviously tools now.
Type 3: The observers. People who watch the two types above intermix.
I was an observer and kind of enjoyed it. The cool guys (who are now tools) were chasing around these "use to be ugly" girls (who loved every second of it). It was hysterical.
Basically, the same cliques existed and didn't seperate until about an hour or two in and people had enough alcohol to mingle... it was just as awkward as highschoool for the first hour.0 -
if i was near my hometown, id go.... but i am usually living far away and would not make the trip just for that.0

Mine will be coming up in a few years and I already know I won't go. I have no reason too. I really didn't like who the people were, or their families. And I only went there for my senior year. Plus all my friends were older already anyway, so it's not like I'm curious to know how they're doing. The people I care about I'm in contact with.
However I might go back to the school I went to for 3 years before this though, I do care about those people. I suppose if I'm invited, I will go to it. Although I don't think I will be since I didn't graduate from there.0 -

My high school was like that too.
I went to my 5 year reunion and had a great time getting drunk and laughing at the people that haven't changed....and laughing even harder at the people who have.
It was a good time. I think you should go. If it sucks, leave....the smallest oceans still get big, big waves...0 -
I went to my 5-year...it was fun, but not all that exciting, since most of us had just seen each other (at least) 5 years ago! I did not go to my 10-year, as we were attending a friend's wedding. We did not have a 15-year, but one of my friend's husbands had a multi-class "pasture party" reunion in May of this year (so, technically my 18-year). It was a blast! I saw a lot of people from all different class years, and the booze was free so everyone was extra lovey-dovey. He did it for 3 local children's charities, so we didn't pay to get in, just made a donation to one of the charities.
There is talk about having a 89/90 combined reunion next year, but I am up in the air about it. I mean, I just saw all the people I might want to see at the May reunion. I should mention that this is still a small town (in the scheme of things), so a lot of us still see each other often.
I would say "go" if you have even a small inkling. It might be fun, and like ToadJode said, you can always leave if it sucks.I still want you all to "take care"--I am just damn tired of typing it.
