Working on your days off

Bit of an Office Space-esque post here.
So I have this part time job that I do every Saturday. It's decent, pays well and it keeps me going until I go to university.
Occasinally, they'll ask me to come in on some other days if they are understaffed. I never enjoy this, but I'm a bit of a pushover so I usually always say yes (+ it's extra money, but I'm doing pretty okay for money atm so it's not really important).
Bottom line, is it rude to say you just don't want to work on days you're not suppoed to be working? Or does your boss tend to expect some kind of reason why you're not coming in (even if it's a flat out lie)?

I'd give em a reason.
Plus working on your day off gets you ready for the real world.
It seems like work last 24/7 sometimes.Charlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -

Just say I'm sorry I have plans for that day and I cannot work. Simple as that - you don't need to give any other explanation imo.0 -
You don't need to give a reason for not working outside your normal work hours. You're going to work 9-5 for the majority of your life. Enjoy your youth.0

Totally depends on the type of job you have. Generally, the rule of thumb is the more you get paid, the less you are able to get away completely when you are not "at work."San Diego 10/25/00, Mountain View 6/1/03, Santa Barbara 10/28/03, Northwest School 3/18/05, San Diego 7/7/06, Los Angeles 7/9/06, 7/10/06, Honolulu (U2) 12/9/06, Santa Barbara (EV) 4/10/08, Los Angeles (EV) 4/12/08, Hartford 6/27/08, Mansfield 6/28/08, VH1 Rock Honors The Who 7/12/08, Seattle 9/21/09, Universal City 9/30/09, 10/1/09, 10/6/09, 10/7/09, San Diego 10/9/09, Los Angeles (EV) 7/8/11, Santa Barbara (EV) 7/9/11, Chicago 7/19/13, San Diego 11/21/13, Los Angeles 11/23/13, 11/24/13, Oakland 11/26/13, Chicago 8/22/16, Missoula 8/13/18, Boston 9/2/18, Los Angeles 2/25/22 (EV), San Diego 5/3/22, Los Angeles 5/6/22, 5/7/22, Imola 6/25/22, Los Angeles 5/21/24, [London 6/29/24], [Boston 9/15/24]0

ask your boss if he comes in on his days off and if he says NO, then so should you... if he says YES, then tell him he really should get a fucking life.
there is no fee for this advice.oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
Working days off is mostly down to wether or not you make enough money on the days that you do work...most of us don't. Anyway, days off are over rated, I like to take a Sunday, other than that I work and it's no hassle. Then occassionally when you take a day off it feels special, and you have some money to go do somethingI came, I saw, I concurred.....0

I used to be like that too. But then I realized if it's my scheduled day off I have the right to say no.
So if you don't want to do it and can do without the extra $$ just tell them you can't.0
