So I just moved into a new apartment. It's a big apartment complex with about 250 units in my building. My door is at the corner of a hallway with my neighbors door right next to mine facing 90 degrees.
I turns out they must be a heavy smoker because all of the smell seeps through my door. When I would come home it was bad enough that it smelled like someone had been smoking in my apartment. I put a door flap on the bottom of my door, which helped a lot, but my apartment still smells like shit. I bought an air purifier today, but it can't seem to keep up. An electric air freshener helps a little bit more, but the smell still gets bad, especially near my door.
I'm not going to say anything to the neighbor. They have every right to smoke in their home, but this sucks for me.
Smoking is the most disgusting habit. Seriously smokers, you may be used to the smell, but it smells like ass.

Maybe you can request to move to a different apartment when one opens up.The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.

That was a thought, but a last resort. Moving is a bitch, even in the same building. My thought now is to get those weather door things to stick around the border of my door.know1 wrote:Maybe you can request to move to a different apartment when one opens up.0 -
Door flap was a good idea, but have you considered this?0

Have you considered the possibility that your place actually smells like smoke as well - either from previous tenants or from the smoke that's come in from your neighbor? So maybe, if it's already in there, keeping it out won't completely solve the problem. Perhaps you could clean the drapes and carpets, etc. and maybe that would help. Good luck though; that totally sucks.0

No. It comes a goes. I can smell it coming through the cracks of my door. Usually Saturday and Sunday morning are the worst. It's like this girl wakes up in the morning and begins chain smoking.scb wrote:Have you considered the possibility that your place actually smells like smoke as well - either from previous tenants or from the smoke that's come in from your neighbor? perhaps you can introduce yourself and politely ask if they could do something to reduce the smell, crack a window...etc.?State as you did here what your concern is.If nothing happens from that a polite complaint to the manager may get something moving.
A guy I know was evicted because of an overly complaining neighbor.Evicted him to shut her up.
But in all reality moving may be your best option._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________

I don't want to make to big of a deal out of it. The smell is pretty much gone right now, but an hour or two ago it was getting bad. Air circulation seems to be pretty good in this building.. I'm going to head to the hardware store and get some weather strips for the door. I think that should fix the problem.mickeyrat wrote:perhaps you can introduce yourself and politely ask if they could do something to reduce the smell, crack a window...etc.?State as you did here what your concern is.If nothing happens from that a polite complaint to the manager may get something moving.

one other thing. There are smoke eating candles that eliminate the smell. I smoke and lived with my mom And burned these instead of having to go outside in the winter. She had zero effects from the smoke(i.e. smell). these things work.some are scented too.. Check out a smoke shop or online._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________
