what!? sick of the "stripper glasses"?

I wear contacts, and here's what keeps me from getting Lasik:

I see the eye doctor once a year and I can not remember the last time that my prescription did NOT change at least some.

So if you get the Lasik, won't you just end up needing corrective lenses again in a couple of years?

My boss had it back in 2000 and he just had to get glasses and contacts again this past month. A pretty strong prescription as well. I am sure it is different for everyone, but I cant put drops in my eyes, let alone have someone do surgery on them. The ONLY way I could is if I was out during the procedure. I have just in the past couple of years had to start wearing glasses for reading and now pretty much all the time and I am 38.

I had it in 2000. I went to a top notch Dr, Dr. Filatov* in NYC. He was one of the pioneers when it came to LASIK. It cost me $5000, but it has come down considerably. A few years ago, I heard an ad for his practice doing it for $500 per eye, only catch was that the surgery was not performed by the Dr. who did mine. When I went for the screening, I insisted Dr. Filatov perform my surgery, as I didn't want some rookie doing my eye surgery. Anyway, even though it cost $5000, I'm still very happy I had it done. My vision was 20/575 in my left eye, and 20/700 in my right eye. I couldn't read my alarm clock when it was 1 foot from my head. One of the good things about going to a reputable Dr., I was told at the screening that the best they could possibly get my right eye was 20/25, and may even need a 2nd procedure to get it right. Many Dr's would not have bothered to tell me that. The results were amazing. It took my right eye a full week to come around. I couldn't recommend the procedure more highly. One thing though, research the Dr. as much as you can. Ask him how long the procedure will take. Ask him how many procedures he does in an hour, and in a day. My procedure took about 15-20 minutes, beginning to end, and Dr. Filatov only did 2 per hour. Some Dr's are like mills. They see dozens of people a day, and make more mistakes.There's a guy in the NY area who used to advertise incessantly, Dr. Joseph Dello Russo. A quick search revealed that he had the most malpractice cases brought against him in the State of NY


*So, I wanted to get Dr. Filatov's name right, so i googled it, and found out that he died in 2003 at the age of 39. Sad

I've been thinking about Lasik for years now. I've worn glasses since 10th grade (I'm 26 now). I have really sensitive eyes, to light, air, and especially contacts. I was never able to get the damn things in my eyes, and when I did they would fall out.

My Aunt and Uncle got it about two years ago and so far they love the decision they made.. I recently got a new pair of specs though (because like someone said, I too have seen the procedure and I really need to psych myself up to get it done), so by the next time I need to get a check up or feel the need to, I might just opt for the surgery.

I've been thinking about getting one eye done at a time.. at least if something messes up I'll have one good eye.. and then I could wear a patch, like a pirate.. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH

Anyway it's like $500 / eye last I checked.

Hmmmm.... you would think so, but I've been fine for 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 years. Can't even remember how long it's been, but no problems.

dude do it! but like fighting hellfish said, make sure you research the doctor and make sure you're comfortable in the facility before you sign onto anything. i got it done about a year and a half ago, spent $5500. i know thats high, and i did see advertisements for less. but the reasons i chose to go to the doctor i did was, he has LOTS of experience, it was a brand new high tech facility and they made me feel very comfortable, plus when it comes to your eyes, i'd rather pay a little more and be sure i'm getting something good. they offered a two year interest free financing plan which was good also.

my perscription was like -675 in both eyes, and went to 20/20 in a matter of minutes! the whole procedure took like 15 minutes, and when he finished, everything was a little foggy, but CLEAR! he asked me what time it was and pointed to the clock, and without missing a beat i said 3:20 without even realizing i could see! i took the next day off work just to be on the safe side but really could have gone in. good luck to you and keep us updated! oh, and by the way... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/pjspat/Misc/Carlson-LASIK-Photo.jpg

i had it done almost a year ago for about 2800. it is worth every penny. the next day when i woke up and could see without glasses was probably the 2nd best day of my life (when the steelers won the super bowl would be #1). i went through lasik plus. i guess they are a mill but the guy was good. i was there maybe 45 minutes the day i got it done. u don't feel a thing when they do it. i can't recommend it enough if u qualify for it. the best advice i can give is do not read up on it on the internet. the procedure has pretty much been perfected and the only thing you will see is the few times it hasn't gone great and will probably freak out. the risk is extremely low overall.
