Ha, well growing up there is another matter :) I hate the place. Thankfully I've managed to move a few miles out over the years because the town itself corrodes my very soul.

hhhmmm - im sure theres been a thread about this before sometime

im friends with heaps of guys ... probably more than girls ... in fact i often find girls have the bigger problem and feel more insecure just because you can be relaxed & friends with a guy.

but the only problem i find is when you get quite close to a guy (friends wise) and you start realising he's looking pretty attractive, (not just appearance - because we can all have good looking friends - but personallity/emotionally/trust/-wise )
    what to do??
jump in and potentially fuck up the friendship??
or just enjoy the flirting and the view, but dont cross the line

a guy would jump im sure ... a girl can look at things long term and weigh it all up
    impatience is a gift ........

:D Oh I am. I'm a total gentleman and pleasant to a fault. I'm just prone to using hilarious 90s hip-hop quotes wherever appropriate (or indeed wherever inappropriate), according to whatever suits my own sense of amusement :)

How do you mean? You mean a Scot can't be a pleasant gentleman who enjoys hip-hop and adheres to appropriate levels of humour?

THAT'S JUST RACIST JAMIE. We'll have none of that round here thank you.

I have a lot of dude friends, I am not generally considered a troll, and they have not tried to get into my pants.

I must be doing something wrong.
    :D

it's possible to be friends with the opposite sex without sex getting involved...but I think honesty has to be part of the friendships.

well that, and I am kinda a dude around them...

I guess it really does depend on your type of relationship. You said you are kind of a dude around them. One of my most attractive female friends is someone I have had a crush on in the past, a long time ago, and would now not dream of getting involved in that way at all. She is more like a sister to me now. I love her like family but I'm not remotely interesting in that way, and I'm generally of the cynical "A guy can't just be friends with a hot girl" opinion.

I also have, for example, a female friend who is slightly less obviously attractive who I feel somewhat differently about. I guess it's all about how your friendship is constructed.

I know some very friendly scottish women, within my family and also just friends but I also know some complete dragons :o

I think that some of it we worked through as we got older...my best friends are all male. I don't really bond well with women...

they make horrifyingly suggestive jokes and can make teamsters blush...I don't think I am treated as a sister - but as an actual male now...in the past they were pretty interested in me (and when they got drunk they would make the required pass) but...overall we have passed that stage.

now that I think about it...I have been befriended by men who eventually make the pass - and I can usually deflect or disarm...I have lost a few friends because they didnt see the "point" in being a friend - without perks...so, I dunno - I still think that the sexes can be friends. maybe the original question uses the term "just" which in my mode of thinking implies that the denier of sexual gratification also feels that friendship is below sexual partner status.
