so say someone is a writer. dont matter what, short stories, novels, plays, songs, screenplays, whatever.

if you are a writer, and are writing a character who is just flat out a bad , bad person. i mean the worst. if you write the person with ease, does that make you creative, or also a bad and shitty person?

i'm having trouble with the fact that this character in the book im working on is the easiset character ive ever written. yet he by far would be the worst person alive if he were real.

not loving "knowing" this character so well. even if he is just a figment of my imagination. and the fact that the character is a figment of my imagination kinda makes me sick in ways.

sorry, had to vent.
Peace, Love.

my problem is writing good and happy people. tis so difficult for me to do cause i am not happy person. and quite honestly it repulses me to do so.

a lot of me comes out in my writing. but there are things some of my characters do that appall me. i know i wouldnt do them, so i put it down to being immensely creative. :D

and ive written characters that appall me too, but this guy ? wow, i get in the goove and go with what comes and seems to be natural for the guy. then i read it back and want to throw up.
but it fits, so i keep it.

Truth be told, these characters we write (at least well) are someone we

    A) Relate to
    B) Relalte to someone in out daily lives or past

That's how much of great literary stories are written. Whether they be short stories/plays/screenplays or characters in songs. When we create these characters and their background we're inspired by whatever it is that inspires you at the moment and just run with it. But, to write a real good character piece, you usually base it on someone your know. OR, you use someone in your life, and flip their personality inside out and see how they would react to the world and people around them in their story.

That's how I do it...then again, I sit around eating sunflower seeds all day. :)

Imagine creating a story of 5 personalities taken from various people on this board and the story synopsis is them having to get to a Pearl Jam show....only they've been robbed, had their car stolen, and are miles away from the show in a distant city...and it's night of the show.

Kinda like Detroit Rock City....but with Pearl Jam fans.

    YIKES!

  • creative.
altho if you think you are a mean and shitty person..perhaps you are. or perhaps you simply need to work on your own self-image. ;) either way, if the character is well-written, i attribute that all to creativity. now if you did a hack job of writing a mean and shit person....yea, i guess you're just putting 'you' on paper. ;) kidding! :D
    Stay with me...

I am myself like you somehow

  • actually i would find comfort in it. this character is so opposite of who you are you can explore what it'd be like to be in someone's skin without actually having to be them

that's part of the fun in being creative, being able to explore emotions one has and even ones that one doesn't possess
  • what a good movie:D

It'd be a murder tale after the first act unfolded! Imagine this taking place in the streets of right wing Texas with a bunch of fans who haven't seen the band since 03...uh oh!

 throw the fact that only 3 posters were made and there are 5 fans!! there might be a slaying!!!

Negativity is survival tool, always assume the worst in people and you will never be let down. The hardest thing to do is be positive. So I would think it would be easy to write about the worst man has to offer, and not so much for the best.

did you buy any books on writing? in 2003, I thought I could write a novel and I bought some. the books help. And they state that you must know your characters SO well, how they would vote....what they would eat for breakfast. I understand that a little bit of yourself DOES shine through even though it's not about you. Is ed a bad person because he wrote Footsteps, Alive, Once? :)

that could be a lot of fun... i'm going to write that.. if only so i can have myself in it and have me doing bad stuff with 2 or 3 of the ladies from here... :):)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
