    Were you dreaming??

Either way, if you're ok now you'll probably continue to be so.

This happened to me once. I was in bed in the morning, lying there awake, but I couldn't move. I couldn't open my eyes and I was actually afraid to try and move bacause I thought I must be dead. It was horrible! And no, I wasn't on drugs - I don't even smoke pot.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.
  • I get something like that once in a while. i feel like I'm awake, but I'm really not.

Welcome to the world of sleep paralysis. Sometimes, you can turn these episodes into lucid dreaming.

If it happens again, just try to stay calm and see where it takes you.

  • this shit used to happen to me all the time a few years ago. aint so bad now, but happened a couple of nights ago.

if i try to stay calm to get out of it, it makes me worse, my heart races, so i try to wiggle my toes, then i snap out of it.

I've had it happen before. That's why I never go to sleep anymore without setting an alarm.

Yea ive had that happen to me before. Used to be scary now its interesting. Its when your mind is awake, but your body is still asleep. You can also get to that point through meditation.
That kind of thing can also be close to an out of body experience. Sometimes.

I read somewhere that when moving into or out of REM sleep (deep sleep) there are times the body either disconnects to soon or doesn't reconnect fast enough with the brain. This causes the paralysis.
There is currently no "cure" for sleep paralysis. It seems to effect teenagers at a higher rate than other age groups.
My son experienced numerous bouts of sleep paralysis during his mid-teens. He found that adhering to a regular sleep schedule and not eating late at night reduced and eventually stopped his problem.
Talking about it also helped. He realized what was happening to him was real and that he wasn't imagining things. He also wasn't alone as I too have experienced sleep paralysis. It often runs in families.
It used to be called "Old Hag Syndrome" because many people upon waking hallucinate and think they see a "figure" running from their room. In olden days, an Old Hag or Witch was the usual suspect.
Good luck and remember that you are going to be OK and try to remain as calm as possible.

    Peace

so THAT's what it is?? this crap happens to me like twice a week. I always get the most vivid dreams and I can actually "hear" myself telling myself (weird, I know) to wake up and get out of bed but I just CAN'T. it's like my brain is disconnected from my body.

i remember watching some show about sleep paralysis. i am not sure if its a brain function thing or a hormone thing, , but they explained that your body somehow stops your body from moving so you don't act out what you are doing in your dreams. people have been known to "wake up" while still paralyzed. during this time, people tend to hallucinate and these experiences are usually blamed for the alien abduction stories.

its amazing how many different sleep disorders there are. on the same show, there was some dobermans that had some severe narcolepcy and when they would get startled or really excited, they would just collapse for a few minutes.

    totally bizarre.

speaking of sleep, i should go try to do some of that.
