I am so excited! Its going to be my first time in Vegas. We're staying at the Stratosphere. I was wondering if there is any place I have to make sure to go while I'm there. Any good shows that aren't really expensive??

Are there any really cool record stores (doesn't have to be on the strip) or any place that I can get PJ or U2 stuff at???

Any help would be great.

i was there once about 8 years ago.
we stayed at the Hard Rock which we all really loved.
did you check and see if anyone is playing there while you're in town?
if I was going to Vegas I would LOVE to see the Beatles/Cirque de Soleil show.

Be sure and go downtown to the "old strip" on Freidmont street one night....the light show is cool...its just a different feel than where you're at.

The Stratosphere has some great views of the city...especially at night. Take a camera up top with you.

Hard Rock has the IMO the best gaming floor atmosphere....with the bar in the center....good, fun vibe there. And if you're there real late, get some breakfast at Mr. Lucky's before heading to bed. Some of the Big casino's like Caesar's or Mandalay Bay are too serious...nobody having fun..just there to win money and not socialize.

As for shows....Blue Man is cool if you haven't seen them...I think they are at the Venetian now. But tix for shows on the strip can be pricey....but the cheaper shows or freebies are pretty cheesy. I go to gamble, so I guess I'm not really the one to talk about shows. Although, Lance Burton sucks and is overpriced....I've heard Danny Gans is pretty good ticket....Never seen the Circus de Soliel shit...however you spell it.

Have a good time, and set gambling limits for each night before you go. Remember you're there to have fun, and the Casino always has the edge no matter what. They didn't build these billion dollar hotels by letting you win.

Penn & Teller put on a great show (at the Rio). I saw them earlier this year. They change up the act every night and they hang out after the show so you can meet them. Tix were $80-90 as I recall.

I've been to Vegas three times this past couple years (PJ show included :)) and it's always fun!

Buy yourself a margerita with the shoulder strap!

If you're looking for top notch buffets, the RIO is absolutely ridiculous, it has something like 13 different cutting stations. If you think of any food I assure you it's at the RIO buffet. IMO the Rio is the best Vegas style hotel. They have a show in the sky where walls come down and all of a sudden it becomes mardi gras with balloons and trains hanging from the ceiling. There's really no way to describe it, it's simply ridiculous. They have free shuttles that leave Bally's and Caesar's to take you there, think it's every 15 mins and only takes about 10 mins to get there. Palms is right across the road to visit as well.

As for shows, my wife and I have seen Penn and Teller, Blue Man Group, Lance Burton, David Copperfield and three Cirque Du Soleil shows. All were great but are somewhat expensive. If you want to see Cirque go to Treasure Island for Mystere (if it's still there) it's reasonably prices at around $75 I think as opposed to $150 at the Bellagio. Madame Tussauds wax museum at the Venetian is worth the money of admission as well!

Old Vegas, as someone pointed out has a unique feel to it forsure. Huge canopy type deal overhead the joins four different casinos. You can hop on a bus anywhere on the strip and it will eventually get you to old Vegas. Think the cost roundtrip is about $4.

Heard Price Is Right is a lot of fun and hilarious although I've never gone. Tickets are $50 or so and you're odds of going up to contestant row are 1 in 3 ;) My friend won a washer and dryer worth $1200 but took the cash payout of $500 instead hahaha!

Regardless of where you go and what you do, you'll have the time of your life! Remember, never walk a flight of stairs, look around and you'll find an escalator to make your trip easier :) This helps when going back to the margerita with shoulder strap!

Also, if you want a Half day excursion...the Hoover Damn is pretty fuckin' impressive. I think its about a 45-hour drive in a car (don't know if you're renting a car)....but I'm sure the hotel can set you up with some kind of a group trip on a bus.

Wow! Thanks so much for the tips everyone. From what I understand the Hard Rock is pretty far away from the strip so I dunno if I'm going to make it there this time with our trip being so short and all.

Indian Summer: I saw Blue Man group for free when it was here in Toronto (my Aunt got tix through her work) and it was GREAT, so not gonna go in Vegas. Also we aren't gonna have time to see the Hover Dam, but I've heard great things about it. My uncle flies in the day I leave and he is going with his new wife.

Hey Sen...thats so sweet! Maybe I'll see you there lol. Ohh gotta tell my roomie about Vince Neils shop...she LOOOVES him and she is a tattoo addict. (she has both sleeves, one leg, stomach, behind the neck, back, foot, small stuff on the chest...etc). She is loyal to her guy here so can't see her getting a tat in Vegas.

Haha Margerita (sp) with a shoulder strap??? haha omg I gotta get me one of those!! What hotel/bar has those?

Mookie...the UFC card is pretty weak and with them charging $150 for nosebleeds my roomie doesn't wanna go to the show anymore. Looks like we'll prob hit the hotel room at 9pm with some pizza and watch it on Spike TV.

so what about shopping folks??? Where do I need to go?? Is there anywhere that PJ or U2 stuff??? any good Vinyl shops??

be sure to do a few of the touristy things, but try to make the trip your own.

    couple tourisy things...
the eiffel tower at night. watch the bellagio water show and check out the strip at night.
the zoo at mirage - cool dolphin stuff.
    hit some dueling piano shows.

You can find the big ass margheritas anywhere really but I think there's only one place that sells them with the shoulder strap :) It's on the same side as the Imperial Palace and very close to it.....heading towards the MGM if I remember right ;) Seriously though make sure you take that free shuttle to the RIO!! You'll be thanking me later
