PJ Wedding Songs?

My fiance and I are in the process of planning our wedding, and we are having a really hard time deciding on the playlist. Obviously, I want to play AT LEAST a few Pearl Jam songs, but I want to make sure that whatever we play is "wedding-appropriate". His family is very traditional, and we're having a hard time finding a balance between what they want and what we want. My fiance isn't a PJ fan, so it really meant a lot to me when he said that I could pick a PJ song for our "first dance". My favorite song is "Come Back" but I don't think the lyrics are right for a wedding. Then we thought about "Black" but that didn't seem right either. We finally decided on a non-Pearl Jam song for the first dance. But I still think I need at least 2 or 3 PJ songs to play later on. I've been playing possible songs for him, and he says they're fine to play at the wedding, but he doesn't really know the lyrics or the meanings of the songs...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • You Are is pretty powerful. A friend of mine had Love Boat Captain played at his wedding.

My brother got married with "Real Love" from The Beatles , and later on we all sang Betterman .. it was really sweet.
  • I walked down the aisle to the String Quartet version of Small Town, so we wouldn't scare the elderly at our church wedding. We played Thin Air during the ceremony, and left during the recessional to the String Quartet version of Going to California. Other songs played were Love by John Lennon, Harvest Moon by Neil Young, and some other cool songs. Here is the link to the String Quartet Tribute to Pearl Jam :http://www.amazon.com/String-Quartet-Tribute-Pearl-Jam/dp/B00008V60L/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1214427320&sr=8-1

Best wishes and have fun planning the music. As a music lover who married a music lover, this was the best part for me!

Hopefully it wasn't foreshadowing their future together.

I'm getting married next year and I'm in a similar boat. I just took my fiance to the two Camden shows (her first PJ shows ever) and now she's become a fan. So we need to come up with a song. My best suggestion (so far) is Parachutes. But I'd prefer to throw a couple more PJ tunes in there. We're putting a lot of Ryan Adams and even Radiohead so why not more PJ????!!!! Our first dance will be "Falling Slowly" by the Swell Season (we're fans of the Once film/soundtrack).
    Rock on!

Umm.... haha I couldn't agree more. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the song. But I'm not sure if that's the message I want to send....

Congrats! That's funny because OUR wedding is also next year, and it's ME who's the PJ fan too. My fiance's first live PJ experience was at Lollapalooza last summer (amazing, btw). It was so funny because as PJ was playing, he kept saying "Oh, I know this song!". I guess he had heard it on the radio or whatever, but never knew that it was PJ. He's a hip-hop fan (don't ask), so what can I expect? He's been a good sport though, he let me drag him to the show last night and we're going to Hartford on Friday.
So how was Camden? I saw PJ there in '06 and it was a really scary experience (long story) and I'm not sure if I can go back there ever again. It was a great show though!

Well congrats to you, too! As for Camden, we loved the shows. The band was fantastic and crowd was really, really into the show. The parking lot in Camden was nothing to write home about and getting out and onto the freeway took forever. Another complaint, we were on the lawn the first night and some jerk thought it was a good idea to pee there amongst a tight crowd -- as if nobody would notice! So for the second night, we took the ferry from Penn's Landing (smarter choice!!!) and we had 10C seats (even smarter choice!!!). So overall, it was a blast despite a couple of complaints. We're back home in Cali and I'm really bummed to be missing the rest of the tour, but gotta pay the bills somehow!

As for our wedding, somebody just mentioned Around the Bend. Now why didn't I think of that? That's a great PJ song for a wedding! Good luck planning your wedding! Now that we've picked the site, I'm having a blast planning the music (we're both music junkies!!!).
    Rock on!

We just got married on June 7th, and our first song was Pearl Jam's 2000 Vegas slow rendition of 'Can't Help Falling In Love.' It went over real well! The first minute is very slow, then the second half speeds up just enough for some nice twirls and shit :)..Truly beautiful..Congrats and best of luck..Off to MSG....
