good song for a funeral?

hey guys, i don't really know how to put this so umm... my grandfather passed away this morning and i was asked if i could do a eulogy or something of that nature. Now i'm not that good at getting up in front of people at a time like this because i really don't know how well i could control my emotions.
One thing that me and my grandfather had in common was a love for music, not really the same taste but it acts as kind of a release for both of us. So i was going to either read the lyrics to a song kind of like a poem or just play a song that i felt describes my feelings i guess.
I was wondering if anybody had any good suggestions for PJ, radiohead, or any songs that could be used that are in that kind of genra. My head isn't really working too well right now so i'm going through some that i like but i just can't think. I'm probably going to do a sigur ros song or 2, just wondering if you guys can think of anything else.
thanks

I know this doesn't mean much from a message pit stranger, but I'm sorry for your loss. :(
Maybe Thumbing My Way or Man of the Hour would be appropriate? I played both of those at my grandfather's funeral a few years back and they felt so right. Everyone really seemed to appreciate the songs and my grandfather loved to hear me play. I think music is something that can really bring people together at a time of loss and that a song or two would be given a very warm reception during such a painful ceremony.

Sorry for your loss, went through the same thing a few years back. I'd say Long Road, Man of the Hour for Pearl Jam, Videotape for Radiohead. As for others, I'd suggest The Seer's Tower by Sufjan Stevens, and I Shall Not Walk Alone by Ben Harper. If you don't have copies of any of these and want to hear them, shoot me a pm and i'll send them to you. peace"Ah, life is a gate, a way, a path to Paradise anyway, why not live for fun and joy and love or some sort of girl by a fireside, why not go to your desire and LAUGH..."0

If you need a PJ tune, Man of the Hour fits well - good recommendations for that here.
Check out Brokedown Palace by the Dead, the version on Reckoning is easily available and guaranteed to make a connection with people of all ages; a heartfelt and truly beautiful song for a somber loss.

Alter Bridge - In Loving Memory. It is one of the more beautiful songs that I have ever heard.0

thanks for all the support and suggestions guys, it is truly appreciated
I think i'm going to do the ben harper song i shall not walk alone as a poem and then play a couple songs throughout the service. Man of the Hour is perfect so that's for sure, now deciding between Release, Come Back, and Videotape. I think they are going to be doing In the arm of an angel aswell.
thanks again for the help."I'll ride the wave where it takes me"

When I die, I want three things. To be cremated, to have a buffet at my viewing/funeral (cuz how boring are they? at least people will have some food!), and a super sound system to blast 'Light Years' as loud as it can go.Abraham Lincoln once said, "If you are a racist, I will attack you with the North."0

maybe - collective soul
The sky now divides
To bring you back into the fold
Welcome home
Still my need to recognize
Any comfort you may show
Only grows
Guess I'll learn to accommodate
While my heart just sits and waits
Maybe God you found
Maybe is all that you can offer now
Where am I to take refuge
When the storms of pain release
Shelter me
This blessedness of life
Sometimes brings me to my knees
I call on thee
I have not the words to write
A Farewell to you tonight
Maybe God you found
Maybe is all that you can offer now
I know hearts are weeping
While your voice is now singing
On high, angel on highmake sure the fortune that you seek...is the fortune that you need0 -
For me personally I would like Given to fly, and/or Home by the Foo Fighters. I wanted Man of the hour for my grandad's funeral but it wasn't up to me :(Paris 7/11/96

I am very sorry for your loss.
Johnny Cash - Meet Me in Heaven. Its a pretty song.
"We saw houses falling from the sky
Where the mountains lean down to the sand
We saw blackbirds circling 'round an old castle keep
And I stood on the cliff and held your hand
We walked troubles brooding wind swept hills
And we loved and we laughed the pain away
At the end of the journey, when our last song is sung
Will you meet me in Heaven someday
Can't be sure of how's it's going to be
When we walk into the light across the bar
But I'll know you and you'll know me
Out there beyond the stars
We've seen the secret things revealed by God
And we heard what the angels had to say
Should you go first, or if you follow me
Will you meet me in Heaven someday
Living in a mansion on the streets of gold
At the corner of Grace and Rapture Way
In sweet ecstasy while the ages roll
Will you meet me in Heaven someday

We played "Space Oddity" by David Bowie at my brother's funeral, it was beautiful. You had many other great suggestions here as well.Check out my Sudsy Chick Etsy Store for all natural homemade bath products!0
