Come on all you misanthropes. Let's commiserate about our least favorite subject: people.

No, but really, though...how much of a recluse are you and why?

I don't have a car and I'm at home all day with a toddler about 6 days a week! And the only people I know in this town are my in-laws!

And that is why I am a hermit.

LOL. If you only knew how much time I spent trying to remember the word "misanthrope." It was on the tip of my tongue, but it just wouldn't come back to me until after quite some time.

I've been a hermit lately just because I don't like hearing "aw, are u ok??" then they give me that pity face.

I just like being alone, give or take a couple of cats or a dog. lol
Im just a solitary kinda guy. I like being around one, maybe two, people if I HAVE to be around people for an extended time.
Simply put: I would rather be alone most of my life, and see people every once in a while, then be with people constantly, and get alone time every once and a while.

I like to meditate and reflect. I should be a philosopher :D

That's me, too. I like to keep my social interactions down to a small group, preferably 2 or 3. And I do enjoy my time alone with my own space.

wow, i'm glad i'm not the only one. i love being alone, most of the time. being at work during the week and socializing one or two nights is enough for me.

I have 0 friends. (edit: I actually have wonderful friends on here, but I don't live near them/or hang out with them in person, so I mean friends in the sense of people I would go do stuff with after work or on the weekends. If you live near me, you like my posts, and you want to hang out, then maybe you can up my friend count from 0)

Honestly. Well I guess my husband is a friend, but then WE have 0 friends. I have met some people in Chicago and they have all turned out to be losers, and two faced and shitty. So I'm at the point in my life where I am busy, and I don't have time for people that don't make my life better in some way, so if a person isn't worth my time, I don't bother. I do have friends back home, but I rarely get home anymore, so its hard to have them in the general sense of the term friend.

I used to miss it, but I think I am getting a little wary of fairweather friends and I rather be alone times then deal with people.

I also don't like going out to places with large crowds of people. But thats a bit different of course. I hate feeling smooshed and cramped for space with stupid people that can't walk without stopping every 2 feet to take a picture, or to stare at the wall. Living in a touristy city can really get a downer sometimes. To hell if I shop on Michigan ave, EVER.

In general I think most people are pretty stupid, and when I go out in public, I seem to reassure myself each time.

    sums me up as well.

i prefer to be alone simpley because people irritate me so easily and its easier on me to just not have to deal with them. i dont like feeling like you have to do something just because someone else in the group wants to do it....id rather go home. i too have a dog that i like to hang with. he loves me as i am...and never talks back to me. since ive started working...i find that dealing with people for the minimum 8 hours a day is so physically and mentally draining that all i want to do is go home and be alone...and get some rest. its hard to find the peace you are constantly searrching for when others are around and questioning things or disturbing the peace. lol ohhh im such a joy to be around. oh well whatever nevermind.

This is pretty close to my own philosophy. I never realised how bitter and cynical Pearl Jam fans were! :p

comes with the territory i guess. those of us who were born and raised with the grunge era. good to know that others are just as bitter and cynical as myself.

I was... 5 when Ten came out, so I don't think I can blame grunge. :p I think it might be that people who post on message pit are perhaps more likely to avoid socialising... ;)

alot of times lately, I am not interested in what my friends want to do...
bands they want to see or concerts -- not my cup of tea. In addition, a guy at work recently implied I'm negative (he mentioned the glass is half full the other day when he was sitting by me at a work related function. He exclaimed, "come on, the glass is half full.") This person knows what my family life has been like for 6 months and I think he had alot of nerve. Often at work when we have forced socialization (mandatory lunches together, blah), I would rather be alone than listen to their bragging. Most of my life, I am the square peg in the round hole. It does not bother me all of the time, sometimes it does.

Aww, if I still lived in Chicago, I would totally hang out with you. :D

And as far as fairweather friends...I hear ya. Once I got pregnant, it was as if my friends fell off the face of the earth. Granted, I also moved halfway across the country from them when my baby was 7 months old...but we really stopped hanging out way before that. It sucks.

I'm a recluse because the people I live with are the only people I enjoy. That and I work at home.
But tomorrow I have to go somewhere and work. *Cringes*
I don't like phony people and especially people that make friends to add to their friends list. I prefer randomly meeting people and accidentally forming a friendship.
When life gives you lemons, throw them at somebody.
