It's the day after the last day of the year that I will even consider going into a retail store (not counting Thanksgiving, when pretty much everyone is closed anyway). It's all online shopping after Thanksgiving for me.Shawn Smith / Brad / All Hail the Crown / Satchel

i NEVER shop on black friday, ever. no discount is worth it to me. quite honestly, my holiday shopping is almost always complete before thanksgiving. IF i do any shopping during the holidays, it's simply for us....b/c we feel like it...and thus we feel no pressure, no rush, enjoy the decorations and music....and if lines are too long, we simply move on. the ENTIRE month of december is ALL about being festive and ENJOYING the holidays to me.

last year we actually bought a new sofa in december, about a week before christmas! it is the BEST time of year for furniture.....getting rid of old lines, introducing brand new ones....AMAZING prices and NO people! it was UNREAL.
besides, for most of my teaching career i taught AND worked retail, so there was no way i would deal with that BS. i actually LOVED working during the holidays, all the frenzy...but could not be bothered as a consumer.Stay with me...

Those discounts are hard to resist! But NOW WAY will I put myself through that kind of craziness! I always wind up getting smooshed in crowds and I'm too short for anyone to even noticePJPixie wrote:lol.......it's the only day of the year I can afford to shop.
Online shopping is definitely the way to go! One year a woman hit me as I was walking to my car cause she was so desperate to get a parking spot. That kind of did it for me :mad:Shawn Smith Collective wrote:It's the day after the last day of the year that I will even consider going into a retail store (not counting Thanksgiving, when pretty much everyone is closed anyway). the other option.....shop earlier.
some reason, many seem to forget about that one. no need to leave your shopping for black friday or ANY day in decmber unless you want to.
i DO like online and catalog shopping, it just kills me to pay for shipping if i know i have a store nearby. also, certain items...such as clothes, shoes...i prefer to see and touch....be able to judge the actual size and quality before purchasing. however, sure...if i know the company and their sizing....or for anything else.....online and catalogs are fantastic! when they throw in free shipping, even better!Stay with me...

Look for online promotion codes - usually you can find a discount code for free shipping at the very least, and sometimes a good percentage off of your purchase. I use retailmenot.com the most oftenThere's a light when my baby's in my arms

now THAT's a good tip....i had no idea!
i have gotten promotion codes for free shipping and/or discounts...but always from the retailer themselves, not outside sources. VERY good tip!
none the less.....oftentimes there isn't a discount or free shipping....and in NY if a retailer has stores in the state AND you buy online/catalog, you pay tax on the purchase...plus on the shipping fee....beyond just paying the shipping...when i can easily just go to the store and buy it.
so that's what i usually do, unless it's one of those 'catalog/internet only' items....like the rolling stone special edition book o just received from restoration hardware for part of my sister's christmas gift.:D
*adds retailmenot. to bookmarks*
