how much is "a fifth" of vodka?

always hear about "a fifth" of vodka or jack daniels or whatever, and i always wondered how much that is....can anyone enlighten me? a fifth of a gallon? how many ounces?

    a very simple google search and you have your answer.

    I never knew exactly what it meant either, but I do know the size and what they look like and that I hate getting fifths of anything and would much rather buy handles.

    in the uk a pint is 20 ounces. Gallon is 160 ounces (imperial gallon). In the US it is 16 ounces to the pint. Gallon is 128 ounces. A fifth of spirits in the US is 32 ounces therefore a fifth of a imperial gallon.

    Perhaps you're thinking of when Snoop says "gang of tanqueray," in Gin & Juice, with "gang" meaning a lot.

    way too late for that!!! they told me JD would put hair on my chest - they were right!!!!!

    i tend to DRINK alcohol, not think about how many fluid ounces are involved...but when people say a "fifth" it made me wonder if that is more or less than i typically consume in a setting

    fifth of vodka is 50 mililitres, as I know. And I know, because it's a half of "hundred=shot" of vodka, which means hundred mililitres (I know how it looks like... and taste...awfully!).
