My wife and I are wanting to trade our cars and have just one. She told me I need to hagel the salesman down and not just settle for the sticker price. My question is....can you do that? does it work to talk the sales person down? Is that what people do??? Will the salesman go down?
Thanks
Thanks
I'll be back

a long time ago, they did. there's ways that you can find out their "invoice" price if you want to use that little tidbit to fight them.

As a salesman, I can honestly say it depends on how good looking the girl is. Oh wait, I guess that's not what you meant."The leads are weak!"
"The leads are weak? Fuckin' leads are weak? You're Weak! I've Been in this business 15 years"
"What's your name?"
"FUCK YOU! THAT"S MY NAME!"0 -

Thats funny. I thought about that after I typed it.I'll be back0 -
what kind of car are you looking at? I might be able to get he invoice for you
also, you can basically work dealers down, but remember that profit isn't a dirty word. If you go in expecting to buy a car and not give any profit to the dealer then you are basically WalMarting the dealer. You will be the one that expects them to stay open and hire good employees to service your vehicle or to assist you with questions, but it's not fair to them if you expect to buy it at invoice. No store can stay open without making some profit.
My family owns 2 Chevy dealers so I see a different side than most people do. We normally ask our customers to give us $500 over invoice and just flat out tell them why we need that. We are a small town dealer though and don't pull any of those bullshit games alot of people do.0 -

I always liked the George Costanza approach. As the salesperson walks up, have your first words to them be, "I WILL WALK OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW!" You should be able to dicker a little after that...Idaho's Premier Outdoor Writer

I can't get that invoice for you sorry0 -
I think Dan said it.
you need to know the dealer invoice price (price dealer paid)
then you can negotiate the price
edit:
and always ask them to throw in an option or two (special floor mats, mud guards, etc.)0 -
