    i don't see what all the fuss is about. i thought being a sexual predator was a requirement before you're even allowed online? i mean, that's what chris hansen has been telling me.

    Just noticed this post and wanted to say thanks Kat! Considering how open-minded most Pearl Jam fans are about politics and social stuff, I was surprised to see how often gay is used as a slur on here.

    Yes, people can argue that gay= uncool is a dead metaphor for them. A dead metaphor is one where you don't make the association with the original meaning of the word. But in this case many, many people around you still do have the association, and they're think you're a homophobic jerk, or at least an inconsiderado.

    One alternative to using gay to mean 'uncool' is the word lame. This comes from the physically handicapped sense of the word. Seems like this one is much more of a dead metaphor...anyone who's handicapped care to give your opinion? Is lame offensive too?
