I just found out my friends are out of town this weekend and they were supposed to be my means of travel from Seattle to Vancover. I've heard there's a ferry you can take to get there but I didn't know if that's expensive or if there's any other or better way to get there. I'm open to any good suggestions, it's last minute and I'd like to have an idea of how much $ it's gonna cost me and my friend to make the trip up north. Thanks to all in advance.

The ferry in Seattle goes to Victoria. It's around $120 I think.....but then you'd have to take another ferry ride to Vancouver from there. Another $25-50.
Bus?
Train? Amtrak Cascades, it's around $30! http://www.amtrakcascades.com/VancouverBC.aspx0 -
you can take a greyhound. it's pretty cheap and the trip is short enough that you wouldn't have to use the bathroom on the bus, which is not so pleasant.
or amtrak. i've never done that, but the train station in vancouver is pretty central.
what are you planning to do once you get to vancouver? we've been having pretty nice weather lately.0 -
Greyhound bus round trip to Vancouver, BC. is a good 3 hours one way. The off the rack non-refundable rate is $108 round trip.

theres also quickcoach, i think teh fare is 60 dollars or so, i've taken that a few times.
if you have time or money, i'd recommend the ferry rides, it'll take you a good chunk of time (and transfers i'd imagine)
but the views are super nice!!
well its nicer (and closer) if you can get a ferry to horseshoe bay but i think that only goes from Nanaimo...
too bad it wasnt the end of the month, i've gotta go across the border to pick up a friend i coulda come down and picked you up as well haha!live pearl jam is best pearl jam0 -
The amtrak trip is great. If you book online it's usually not much, but I don't know about this short of notice.

That've been nice! I'm wondering at this point if it's easier for my buddy and I to rent a car for the day and drive up there. Is that any better than the other suggestions? I'm so bummed my friends can't make it, I got a passport just to go there and now it's looking like I waisted f'n $110."Trying is the first step towards failure" - H.J.S.

American citizens don't need a passport to enter Canada by land.
Amtrack is a good bet for travel, 'cause it's a pretty trip and they serve beer.Walking can be a real trip

With the price of gas and renting a car - I'd go the amtrack or bus route if I were in your shoes. But - if you have the time - take the ferries. It is a beautiful boat ride through the San Juans up to Victoria (then you'd need another to get to Vancouver) - absolutely beautiful.
Go here if you want to look into the ferry: http://www.clippervacations.com/
*they may also have train/ferry packages - ride the train north and the boat south or something similar*Check out my Sudsy Chick Etsy Store for all natural homemade bath products!0 -
i think sennin has it right,
i always fly out of seattle so when i go down i usually use amtrak.
if there arent any trains (usually they only have evening trains) they'll put you on a bus... and the bus is no better or worse than greyhound...
if you go with quickcoach they're more expensive int eh summer but they have wifi on it i think! anyways, yah i'd say amtrak.live pearl jam is best pearl jam0 -

thanks for the quick coach suggestion, looks like I'm leaning that way unless I can get a ride from someone else I know who lives in seattle. One more question I have, does Vancouver accept US$? Or do I need to do a currency exchange? I hope I don't have to, but I don't want to be caught off guard. And for those who've used quick coach is it a decent ride and does it drop you off at a good location?"Trying is the first step towards failure" - H.J.S.

quick coach as a few places that it drops off downtown.Funkdog wrote:thanks for the quick coach suggestion, looks like I'm leaning that way unless I can get a ride from someone else I know who lives in seattle. honestly tho, amtrak is cheaper and you go to pacific station, which is pretty much downtown... and its right beside the skytrain station.
for the most part i think places here will take US money on par... we do at both the places i work anyways. too bad you guys dont do the same for us
i dont think i've ever run into anyone who cared that i gave them an american nickle.
