they showed the quote from Hal Steinbrenner that will be in today's Daily News
he said that A-Rod "doesn't understand what it means to be a Yankee"
and "I don't want anyone on MY team .. " like that

that was the gist of it.

the headline will read "GET LOST" OOOH! D'oh!

Peter Gammons just said maybe there's a reason he's never been in a WS game

i didn't agree with the steinbrenner's comments on torre, but i love this comment on a-rod. it sounds like the good old days when his father would pop off like it was a bodily function..

DENVER -- "The Red Sox can have their Nation. The Yankees have the universe."
-- Hank Steinbrenner, New York Yankees senior vice president

That the Yankees' Steinbrenner says otherwise is one-third arrogance, one-third ignorance and one-third stupidity. Then again, that sort of self-infatuation helps explain why the Yankees haven't played in a World Series since 2003 and haven't hoisted the sterling silver Commissioner's Trophy above their heads since 2000.

Wow. I believe this is a huge mistake for A Rod. First of all, he was going to make a ton of money with the Yankees, its not like he needed more. And if he had stayed he would for sure gone down on the list as one of the greatest Yankees of all time (sorry people but its true) said in the same breath as Babe Ruth. Now, he'll still be known as a great player, but he'll just be remembered as a huge asshole more than anything I think. The Yankees have some big holes to fill now.

About Girardi, I know Yankee fans love Don Mattingly, but I personally think that Girardi will be a better manager than Mattingly, so I think this should be treated like good news for you guys.

I agree with you about Girardi. This could be quite a pivitol time for the yankees, New Manager, New Owners stepping in (still in the family but new nonetheless), Star Player gone, a couple long standing players could leave (posada, riveria, pettite)

If those three leave that means Jeter is the only hold over from the late 90's glory run.

On the bright side the young pitching looks like it has talent and hopefully will make a splash. Although next year could be a rebuilding year and letting the youngsters get their feet wet wtih a full season.

If the yankees are getting younger Girardi makes perfect sense.

I think there were signs of that tunnel beginning in 2001. Sure, they went to the playoffs every year since then (and that by no means is a small thing, I would have killed for the Mets to make the playoffs every year since 2001). But, I remember my friend calling me up after they lost and saying "its the end of an era" and he was right.

agreed they just don't seem to have any clue as to how to go about good baseball bussiness sense at all, plus i don't think they ever got over being beaten by boston in 04 " i just see a revolving door at the manager's position for yrs to come ......

I don't know, if they sign Girardi, and are serious about rebuilding the team, and start to go younger and really work their farm system, I see the Yankees being able to stay in contention for a while. I think the more they work their farm system and go for really good young players, the more they begin to look like the Yankees from 96-00.

Hopefully (for their sakes, I don't care really, being a Mets fan) they give Girardi a chance; at least if they're honest about wanting to rebuild.

agreed about girardi but if he doesn't get them to the playoffs next yr fans will be calling for his head so the pressure will be intense for the next manager ......

  • good for the Yankees to blow this thing up - and really start fresh next year.

as a Sox fan, I couldn't be happier. But it's not the same as 04 when we beat the Yanks. The Yanks had a really good year this year, just fell a little short. Would of been fun to meet in the ALCS. There will be plenty of oppurtunities again.

The team with the longest WS drought, exacerbated by the fact the in recent years the other 2 long suffering franchises, the Red Sox and cross town White Sox have ended their nearly as long droughts, signing the superstar who has never played in a World Series because his me first approach seems to make the team worse instead of better...yeah thats a good match. ;)
