Police: Pregnant woman, denied drink, attacks bartender
Friday, February 15, 2008
The Associated Press

A woman who is seven months pregnant is accused of smashing a beer bottle against a bartender's head after she was refused another drink.

Police say 30-year-old Keisharra Abercrombie of Rochester assaulted the female bartender on Saturday after being told she shouldn't be drinking alcohol.

Police say Ms. Abercrombie also smashed a glass over the bartender's ear and head.

Authorities say the bartender's ear was partially detached. A surgeon in Pittsburgh used two staples and 28 stitches to reattach the top of the ear.

Ms. Abercrombie was arraigned Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and reckless endangerment. She was in the Beaver County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Ya know I love ya but I gotta disagree here. Bartenders have the right to refuse patrons a drink if they think they've had too much. The bartender may have also noticed the pregnancy and was trying to do the right thing by showing some 'tough love'.

So seven month pregnant women should be boozing it up?

If she had had enough and was drunk, fair enough... which by the sounds of her attacking the barmaid then could be close to the truth... I can understand that.

But I don't think someone else should decide a pregnant woman can't drink! At the end of the day it's up to the mother... and fuck, if I'd to go through that for 9 months... no WAY I'm doing it without a drink or two :D

If that's what they wanna do, that's what they wanna do. And according to studies... nobody should really be boozing it up  who are we to listen to? Chocolates bad for ya one day, next day it's a superfood.

If that is what they wanna do, then they shouldn't be allowed to have kids.

    Is the risk worth it?

Isn't that the norm in Cape Breton??? :p

    LOL

Seriously I just heard about a pregnant woman in BC was was driving drunk and died. Left behind two other kids. WTF is wrong with people???

I would love to fall in love, get pregnant and CARE for a baby. And others just do it so willy nilly with no regard.

I agree...a beer or wine or two is fine...hell i've served my pregnant wife x3. But this girl was shut off for being drunk. The fact that she was pregnant was secondary here.

'Thus, the current recommendation is not to drink at all during pregnancy'

 since when? I read recently that a glass or two of wine here and there is just fine!

well then I'm in complete agreement with ya... someone getting drunk and rowdy they're well within their rights not to serve them anymore.

I'm just going down the obvious line this thread will go down... do bar staff have the right to refuse somebody drink just because they're pregnant? Absolutely not IMO

Like Steve said, a little bit here and there is probably fine, but use some common sense.

And yes, I think it is the norm in CB. We even substitute shine for milk on cereal every morning to start the day off right.

I'm not arguing over a glass of wine or two (I have heard that as well).
Avoiding steady drinking and drinking in excess during pregnancy should be a no-brainer.
  • Just for the sake of argument...

My doc said a drink once in a while (after the first trimester was over) was just fine! Seriously.

I didn't drink though. I had high blood pressure so I didn't even have caffeine while I was pregnant!
  • Oh, I guess I put that last reply in a little too slowly.

I got distracted by the baby. (She's drunk again.)

    :D

Exactly I am not saying a glass of wine later on is wrong but doesn't sound like classy lady there was just having one to relax.

haha well on PEI we put shine in the baby's bottle :P
