So I'm in Washington still at the jobsite I'm working on, still not home yet. But there's a job opening up in California that a lot of people up here are talking about moving to, for those that aren't from CA that traveled up here.

Anyway I'm sitting here and two guys walk in, and one guy said, "You gonna take that job in CA? I hear their perdiem pays quite high."

and the other guy said, "seriously? Why would you want to go to CA?"

With a response of, "Well I've been down to Orange County and San Diego, it's somewhat nice."

And the other guy said, "Well I'm never going back to CA. There's nothing but Mexicans in the south and Queers in the north, why the fuck would anyone want to go there? It's disgusting, and dirty."

To which the other guy agreed...

What the fuck...

My mind is blown. I mean I know it's out there...but blatantly still that intolerant is fucking horrible. Almost as horrible as my grammar.

Oddly, there are many 'o white folk in Cali who feel the same way. Orange County got its population from whites who were vacating Los Angeles to get away from the influx of minorities.

But it goes both ways. It's not like discrimination is only practiced by whites. If anything, ethnic minorities are even more discriminatory because their status as a "minority" precludes them from being targeted for being discriminatory.

How often is it that you hear about an asian or mexican business who is in court over practicing discrimination? Yet, they do it all the time.

When I graduated from college, I applied at a CPA firm that was staffed entirely by mexicans. I was told that I needed to speak spanish. The partner who interviewed me even said, "We had a white person work here once. She was crazy," as though the idea of hiring a non-mexican was something of a novelty to him.

Take a trip down to mexico and suddenly you'll realize what it feels like to be a gringo.

So, yes, it's shameful that people from other states look down on California because of its diversity. But, ultimately I have to chalk it up to human nature more than an inherent evil. Then again, maybe mankind is in fact inherently evil.

My brother-in-law is from Mexico City, been down plenty-o-times. That really doesn't have much to do with this I don't think.

Not that it doesn't go both ways, I understand that it does, but just the fact that he grouped CA into just two stereotypes and hit on both and used that as an excuse to stay out.

Yes, it goes in many directions. Cruise on over to Westminster/Garden Grove and you see it with the Asians, go to Mission Viejo, Newport, Huntington and you have the whites, go to Anaheim/Buena Park and you've got the Mexicans. Yes, a lot of tension within a small area...

but that's a whoooooooole different story when it's close quarters and discrimination going on rather than just staying out of the state because we've got mexicans and queers. It's that kind of mind set that leads to this tension we've got as a whole.

i'm still stuck on how CA is disgusting and dirty. i know i'm biased because i was born and raised here in the bay area, but i've done my share of traveling and there are few places that have the variety of beauty that is found here

better off those morons don't come here, they wouldn't appreciate it.

But as chiqui said don't tell them the truth! I wouldn't want people like that in our beautiful Golden State (the BEST state IMO)

these people haven't been to yosemite....joshua tree....big sur....etc....california is one of the most diverse areas in the world....

as for the people....there are assholes everywhere....it's not exclusive to california

no shit, there is so much scenery to choose from here. i love that i can go to the beach, the wine country, a quiet woodsy area and a major metropolitan city, all in the same weekend, and not even go all that far!

but yeah, ignorance is the factor here for sure. it's sad...when people are close minded, they don't let anything in. and the same goes for their hearts too.

Hey DONT tell them that they are full of shit...agree with them...tell them that the air in OC and LA smells like burned beans and oddly enough...some sort personal lubricant....let then know that the dreaded "Queer Beaner" prowls at night...turning "decent Am'ricans" into raging gay-sex loving drones who only want to eat tacos...

I have someone in my myspace who lives in New York. She has a friend who lives in Washington. That friend in Washington has about 150 friends who are all white. I can't imagine how that is statistically possible.
