Ok, since I've been in the UK, I've noticed that a lot of people here really dislike ginger (red) hair. What's up with that? I talked to a lady that I'm working with right now, who just told me she had been bullied all throughout her school years :( Does anyone know why or care to speculate on the red hate?
Thanks, btw I'm not a ginger, but my husband is. I'm just intensely curious.
Pax!

great episode
love the parody of the "Better red than dead" slogan0 -
its cos they look like Duracell batteries
also Mick Hucknall is a ginger... what greater reason is there for people to hate gingers???oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
My twin brother is ginger... and I mean GINGERRRRRR!!!!
He stinks of piss... Everyone knows ginger's stink of piss.
Except Audiodave. He's of the rare 'stinkless ginger' species, 3rd generation... only ever been 1 found in the wild... true story.Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.0 -
i think redheads can be gorgeous...and some, errr......not so much.
it's very rare for me to have a lukewarm response to one ginger-haired. i usually either think they are beautiful....or butt-ugly. sorry. and that applies to both genders. at the very least, i will think pretty or cute......or ack! redheads are *rare* and as much as people like to think they are so original in their thoughts, think outside the box, etc......the vast majority of people like other people who look like them. always have. it's really quite a common thing in human nature. no, you don't/aren't attracted always to people *exactly* like you......but people are usually draw to pretty common features. all generalizations of course, but that really is what it is....'average'...and redheads aren't average, in the hair color sense anyway.
btw - audiodave is a cutie.Stay with me...

True that. Gingers tend to be stunning or...erm... not so
Not so long ago I saw a ginger girl in my local pub once that absolutely took my breath away she was that beautiful, she was the talk of the table... same night, another girl with flowing ginger locks walked in and I was sick in my mouth a little. You're right, there isn't normally a middle ground with red hair.
And thank you, Audio is a cutie. Tbh when I first spoke to him and discovered he was ginger I didn't know what to think but when I met him I was astounded, he has the most amazing features... he's definately on the stunning side of the fence.
...but of course, you all knew I was going to say thatBeen to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

I agree D2D and Sian . . . Gingers are usually one or the other in terms of looks. Mine's definately on the hot side. But back to my original question . . . Why are gingers made fun of, harrassed, etc.? Is there some sort of superstition surrounding red hair in the UK? It rather seems like a mediaeval mentality"What the CANUCK happened?!? - Esquimalt Barber Shop0

at first i thought you were gonna say people in the UK don't like to cook with ginger! So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

hmmm...never heard the term "ginger". been called many things...carrot top, 'annie' (little orphan), red, red dawn, etc. but never ginger.
I don't know why anyone would say that "ginger's stink of piss". I shower on a daily basis, and I do not stink of anything, especially not piss.
As far as why do we get picked on a bit more? Because we're different. I used to be bummed about it as a kid, but now I very much enjoy the fact that I don't look like everyone else.Check out my Sudsy Chick Etsy Store for all natural homemade bath products!0 -
Ginger Kids
Children with red hair, light skin, and freckles. We've all seen them. On the playground, at the store, walking on the streets. They creep us out, and make us sick to our stomachs. I'm talking, of course, about Ginger kids. Ginger kids are born with a disease, which causes very light skin, red hair and freckles. This disease is called "Gingervitis". Kids who have Gingervitis cannot be cured. Because their skin is so light, Ginger kids must avoid the sun. Some people have red hair, but not light skin and freckles. These people are called daywalkers. In conclusion, I wil leave you with this. If you think that the ginger problem is not a serious one...think again!*

again, i think it's b/c of being *different.* now sure why it's so specific in the UK, i wouldn't know.....but even here in the states i've seen it happen enough in my student and teacher days.
and yes, referring to someone as 'gnger-haired' is definitely a UK thing. in the states we call em redheads. either way, both are incorrect huh?
and i too initially thought this thread was about the spice ginger....or at least ginger from gilligan's island.haha.

I had never heard the term "ginger" before the South Park episode. Which is odd since I lived in Ireland.
BUT I had never heard of people being teased/made fun of until a few months ago on this board (I think someone posted an article about gingers being harrassed or something).
One of my best friends is a redhead, and she and her brother have never been made fun of or anything; I've known her since high school and she has always been super proud to be a redhead!
Personally I like redhead hair better on women than men, and I agree that redheads/gingers are either really atrractive or really not...
I must say I think the British chick on Lost is very pretty...her eyes are wild and soooo pretty too!0 -
probably has something to do with the Irish and Scottish people originally. They have the highest percentage of red hair and no doubt there is some deep rooted old hatred due to the conflicts over the years.
There are loads of sexy red haired women out there in the world. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0
