i *loved* how it was filmed, what a perspective......and the eye? yeowzer.....really well filmed! and Mathieu Amalric was UNREAL! also, julian schnabel...never a fan of his as an artist...talk about pretentious ....he definitely did an excellent job directing!

definitely very *vivid*......and makes you think, and appreciate EVERY day, even the simpliest pleasures b/c it ALL can be taken away, just like..........THAT.



btw i just looked up amalric's film history, and it's mostly roles he's starred in. i KNOW i say him in some flick, he was the son of a french drug dealer i think? was it one of the bourne trilogy's...? anyone know what i'm talking about?

On a shallow note, I was surprised to see Emmanuelle Beart "aging" so well on camera. It's rare for actresses now to look real, non-botoxed.

it's not shallow to appreciate someone actually 'aging gracefully'...tis rare today! it IS fantastic to see people accept the aging process and STILL be beautiful doing so!

i would REALLY like to see some women with grey hair! seriously! saw something the other day in the paper about older actresses....and yes.....most of em looked fab, some 'worked on' obviously...others, maybe/maybe not....but not a ONE with their natural haircolor. beautiful, gorgeous and vibrant women.....go grey! try it! i really, really am giving it a go myself - see how long i last - but cmon, 50....60....70...........it's time! just be *you*. be fit, fabulous and as much the "real you" as you can.


so yes...i agree, altho i am sure she dyes her hair too, hahaha. nothing wrong with it of course....but yes, i would really like to see more women of an advancing age accept the inevitable greys...and STILL look beautiful doing so!


anyhoo.........ON topic of the film - she DID look spectacular. really great job ACTING, too. i definitely thought and thought about her 'character' and her choices....and was both sad and impressed. although, i guess i felt the same about the main character too. i loved how real, and flawed, they all were.....and how overall, accepting of those flaws, dealing/living with em.



btw - i may just want to read the book now. maybe not RIGHT now, but i am sure it must be great! (sans helen's rejection of it, haha) i rarely read a book AFTER seeing a film...but i imagine it contains so much *more*...and it would be amazing to read. granted i've got a pile of books *this high* at home.....but yea, it may make it's way to the "list."



justam...i agree. it's just a beautiful language all the way around. i adore most languages, period....can't speak french at ALL...but i simply love the sound of the spoken word in french. hell, even seeing it on the printed page it 'looks' beautiful to me as well. haha.

i personally do not know anyone who has seen this flick besides myself and hubby...and sure, few people here ....i'd really like to hear/know more go and see this amazing film!
