It's basically only done my middle age to old women at the grocery store. That's why I hit the self check out aisle :)

    yep.. thats annoying alright! :D

the ones that dont get their wallet out until they have packed all their stuff away!?!? give the girl your card and then pack away until she asks for your PIN...why wait for ages and then search for the right card!!

i genuinely detest queuing as you can probably tell :D
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

arent all your purchases monitored by the government??? thats what you've said in the past... so it's relevant to the thread.

thanks for being the Mod of the Day winner though ;):D

writing cheques??? people still do that in the States? most of the shops here have refused them for a while now... obviously some will still take them but the bigger chains have phased them out.
not yet while i'm still using cash :)

there's only one thing more annoying than people like you getting irritated... and that's people who take a topic from one thread and merge it into another thread and try and make it stick :p

I wouldn't take my eye of the card while it's in somebody elses hand... you read so much about skimming and the likes these days.

I don't know when the last time I had to hand my card to somebody was ... now with chip and pin it never normally leaves ya ... even in restaurants they bring the machine to you.

Don't know why Dunk is handing his card over to random girls  :p

so yeah skimming happens all time in the checkouts of Tesco, Safeway and Argos... see, i dont live in a hotbed of crime Hells... so i dont know about these skimming things.. i generally trust the wee boy at the checkouts because he's

    a) about 15 years old
    b) looks geeky and non-criminal-ly
    c) if he stole my details i'd pour salt into his eyes and kill his pets

so hunger is more important to you than someone tracing your purchases?? you might want to re-assess your government intrusion theories if a bit of hunger means you'll go against your beliefs and use a debit card which will trace your purchases!!! imagine if Bobby Sands gave in that easily... :p

well they should join a book club or something... instead of annoying the shit out of people in a hurry like me ;)

anyway... even MORE annoying than them are the cashiers who have shitty chit-chat with you while they scan the stuff... if i want shitty chit-chat I'll go to the hairdressers thank you... now get scanning my beer and meat products!!!

I hate that. And related to this, what about the people that go to the grocery store to socialize. I always find two people chit-chatting in the most awkward places, like parking their carts in the middle of the aisle blocking it.

usually I go as quick as I can... UNLESS they try to speed up the process by being rude... in which case I could be likely to drop some money.... or ask them a question or something! I enjoy playing with people who are in a hurry :D

Pretty much. I have a little purse that is kind of a wallet with a shoulder strap, and I just put the money in it in like 1 second.

I stopped carrying cash a few years ago and pay for pretty much everything with a debit card now. You want to hear audible sighs and see people rolling their eyes? Try whipping out a card to pay for a $1.50 Diet Peach Snapple at your local convenience store...

"anyway... even MORE annoying than them are the cashiers who have shitty chit-chat with you while they scan the stuff... "

I work at a grocery store, and I have customers who tell me their life story! I don't care! Move on! I am NOt a 'shitty chit-chat' person..
We are told to get the customer out as fast as possible, so therefore I try to keep the line moving by saying very little.
Seems the hardest question of the day is 'Would you like a bag?'
I am an assistant manager, and I usually am working by myself, so I have lots of things to get done except stand at that register.
If the customer can help, a little, it sure doesn't hurt.
Then I have the ones who can't even say, 'hello' or 'thank you'. I mentally say some things that can't be said aloud..
So it goes both ways. My job isn't fun, and games, and waiting for someone to move isn't that difficult for the customer to do..
I've had customers walk out because they had to wait while someone went digging for change, or forget to get something, and left the counter..etc, etc..
Be courteous, and think of the other customers in line..put yourself in their place..

I do. I never think to move to the side before stuffing the cash back into my wallet. This generally causes a bit of a traffic jam.

The way I see it, the process of putting the cash back into my wallet is part of the overall purchasing process, and I shouldn't have to move to the side.

    Am I being rude?

yes and if you do this you are a dbag
