Our nation is becoming more liberal, but this board is becoming more conservative

I thought I'd post this here but after reading a lot of the posts over at The Porch, it seems like...well I don't know just really really strict and weird. People jump down peoples throats if they ask a rational question.

Hmmm oh well, been here a while, guess there has to be SOME change

    i don't think that is it, at all. i think many here are just quick to judge and/or have very skewed views when it comes to any/all things pearl jam. also, it's a message board...and we all know there are many who behave in one manner in this anonymous media and a whole other way in reality. and, a lot of people simply like to start shite...and sure, some people are simply assholes. here, and in real life. :)


    btw - i WISH our nation would become more 'liberal'...i remain unconvinced thus far.

    I don't know...I go to school in Northern VA and I'm down in Southern VA a lot, and I'll tell you...southern VA got a lot more liberal than most would think and it can get 'scary' down in those neck of the woods

    it's a BIG country, and even living in a 'liberal' state...politically it isn't always, and bottomline...we shall see. i continue to hope, and do my part ;)...but as i said, time will tell if it's *enough*....

    i don't see that the board has changed at all, the only thing that's changed are the names.

    and if you're gauging the entire nation with what's going on in southern va, then you're in for a rude awakening.

    open your eyes and pay attention.

    I agree. The board has either become more conservative or I have just started noticing it more. Some of the threads around here in recent times have bothered me a wee bit but I would never dream of calling for them to stop. Discussion is what this site is all about. On the other hand, some of the moderation has been a bit dodgy recently, no offence to Kat and Sea, I just don't feel like I can say what I feel as bluntly any more without fear of reprisals. Some of the most interesting characters around here seem to have been served with lifetime bans... :o

    but I supposed that's the way it is. I just need to be more accomodating to change :)

    Most moderated forums create an unhealthy, pseudosocial situation where participants are to a degree infantilised in their behaviour, whether they're being all fluffy and huggling or calling one another douchebags or asshats. The trick is to be adult, leave no topic untouched, and to argue passionately without resorting to playground taunts, or to be civil without coming across as a load of bloody fairies. Whoops, I said fairies. What a conservative asshat douchebag I am. :D

    Read before you type...where did I say I base my assumptions on the ENTIRE NATION being more liberal just on southern VA. For example, New York, where you and I both live is an extremely liberal state. correct? WRONG, upstate New York was EXTREMELY conservative during the 2004 election, something like 35 counties voted for Bush, this time around they all voted for Hillary. Even though I hate her, they still voted democratic. Same thing with the midwest, did you see how many votes Obama got?

    Stop being so critical and bringing your rude attitudes to this board.

    In my 8 years here, I noticed the changes after a certain large event, spun and used as fodder for propaganda to encourage a more xenophobic populace in order to justify a destructive foreign policy.

    See now the funny thing is liberals view themselves as "good guys" and conservatives as "bad guys" so you assume that if someone jumps down some one else's throat than they must be a bad guy conservative. I have found the opposite to be true on these forums. Because I would say 85% or more of the posters are liberal, many tend to become very rude and all gang up against people who have different views. You probably don't notice that as much because when you agree with the majority its not as offensive to you.
