There were suggestions of an overdose, and if thats true I think it will be hard to feel as much sympathy for the guy, drug problems in many cases are self inflicted and it would be a poor reflection on him. Dying of a overdose is a shitty way to be remembered.

so if Ed died it wouldn't occur to you that that's the end of the tours, no more new albums, it's the end of a pretty huge part of our lives.

I don't care for Heath but I can tell many people did. Are you into sport? What if the best player on your team died suddenly... at the very least you'd be a bit shocked, no?

perfectly stated. if it was any member of Pearl Jam these people would not have that response. they'd be devastated.

i stated that i find it hard to believe people here are actually crying over a perfect strangers death......

Though a guy in work last night mentioned there something about him getting a divorce or something recently and that might have had something to do with it? I'm ignorant of it so I don't have a clue.

Drug use is stupid and totally not the answer to anyone's problems, but I do feel sympathy for the people who chose to go that horrific route. I think he had trouble sleeping and took his ambien along with another sleepaid that just didn't mix with it....I take Ambien sometimes and there is a ton of mediciation over the counter that is deadly with it. Lack of sleep can make a person crazy!!

Again, thats the problem with word of mouth, when I was told 'od' it was made to sound like a motley crue party, it would be even more tragic if it was from mixing sleeping pills by accident.

Some people would be though. Would that make them less of a person, or be inappropriate?

well they should be if PJ means as much to them as they let on... although certain people don't let on that PJ means all that much to them anyway... so I dunno why they're even here

I don't consider an actor, Britney, a musician, etc a perfect stranger... They are famous, on the tv, on the news, etc, so they are known to you...
I have never met Matt Cameron, does that make him a stranger? If he died, should I not care?

It's not so hard to believe. Some people owe so much to pearl jam, their music helped them through the most difficult times in their lives. They've been "with" pearl jam since the beginning. The band members aren't 'perfect strangers' anymore.

I'm not saying I would cry, but I'd certainly be shocked and very sad about the news.

Besides, I don't think it really matters that he was a multimillionaire actor, he was 28 years old and his death was untimely, he was also very talented and on top of that a 2-year-old girl is left without a father.

That's tragic, whether you knew the guy or not.
    THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

and it hits close to home whether you personally know the person or not.

famous people come into our homes and lives in films and tv and music and they do affect our lives.

some of us are just more emotional and/or empathetic...
some of us feel things more strongly and our emotions are closer to the surface.

it doesn;t make anyone wrong or right or strong or weak...
it's just what makes us different from each other.

it's just not right to make someone feel bad or wrong for having strong emotional reactions.

Exactly! ANY time I read about a young person die in the papers it's very very sad. I don't normally cry. I cried for that 17 year old swiss girl who arrived in the country on a Saturday and was raped and murdered on the Monday :( and I didn't know her or anything about her but anyone who said you'd be stupid to cry over that is just a wee bit heartless.

Like I said I wasn't a fan of Heath at all but I'm sure those who WERE would have known bits about him... maybe even little things like who his wife was, what his daughter was called. You may never have met the person but when you know little bits of information about them, they're more than a stranger to you.

my husband and I were riding home together from work when I heard it on the news. I felt horrible. I just read an article on MSN that said he slept 2 hours a night in november and only slept 1 hour from 2 Ambiens. I feel so sorry for him, he was full of anxiety. I know exactly how he felt. May he rest in peace now.
I loved him in Knight's Tale and Brokeback Mountain. I bought "the order" just because he was in it. :(
