If you're going to feed nature...don't feed them processed shit. Hey duckie....here's some poison....oh happy me!
http://www.ducks.ca/resource/general/faq/faq2.html#eat
9. What do ducks eat?
That depends on the ducks species and life stage. Different species have different diets. As well, ducks often eat different things at different ages, depending on what their bodies need.
For example, mallard ducks will eat a variety of foods, such as seeds, roots and stems of bulrushes, millet and smartweed, as well as waste grain like barley from farmers fields. Theyve also been known to eat mosquito larvae, midges and mayfly nymphs.
A different example is common mergansers. These birds usually eat minnows, game fish, trout, salmon and some amphibians.
10. Ive heard that feeding ducks bread is bad. What should I feed them?
DUC does not recommend feeding ducks. It increases the chances of negative human/wildlife encounters, reduces the ducks foraging instincts and can make them dependent on people for food.Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

Having acknowledged that and being delighted to discover that this really is a thread about feeding the ducks, I have to say it's one of my favorite things to do! I used to lived across from a park that had a duck pond and we would always take our stale bread and crusts over and feed them. I love watching them swimming about and diving to catch the bit that got away! And all the quacking! I've even got pics of me feeding the ducks in a little shopping courtyard by St Paul's Cathedral. So I'm an International Duck Feeder!
OMG, Jeanie, I didn't know it was a euphemism.

I love feeding ducks
I'm lucky enough to have a duck pond next to where I work. I'm often found sitting having/sharing my lunch with the little wing'ed creatures in the summer. We also have a heron and two Canadian geese who visit every year, I've named them Harry, Terwillager and MaureenBeen to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.0 -

Well I've always known it as a euphemism for male masturbation.
Thankfully this thread is about feeding the ducks in the literal sense.NOPE!!!

The last time i went to the park to "feed the ducks" i ended up getting violently intimidated my a large swam of geese, who appear to have no compassion for ducks whatsoever - the bread i purchased for the outing was used in the end, not to satisfy the hunger of these viscious animals but as a weapon of self-defence, to stop myself getting mauled alive!
A pastime not recommended . . .0 -

Feeding the ducks/swans/geese/pigeons/squirrels/tuataras is in my opinion one of the few truly life-affirming activities left in this world.

Ok, I think it has something to do with standing behind the person feeding the ducks. Imagine them sitting on a park bench with the bag of bread in their lap, reaching into the bag and throwing bits of bread to the ducks. The hand action?
That's the only explanation I got for it reefer but it's a well known euphemism around here.NOPE!!!

wow..they are brazen. I will remember not to go to that parkCosmo wrote:...
There's a park near San Francisco where the squirrels have gotten so used to humans (that have been feeding them), they come up and yank stuff out of your hands.
"Jennifer Packard told the San Jose Mercury about the latest attack. She said she had unwrapped a muffin during a picnic last week in Mountain View's Cuesta Park and had given it to her son, Andrew.
Quickly, a brown tree squirrel pounced, attacking the 4-year-old and wrestling with him for the muffin. The youngster was bitten and scratched as he ran screaming through the park with the squirrel still hanging onto him as he rolled desperately in the grass to end the attack."
