If Pearl Jam played the halftime show

They could fill 12 minutes with Corduroy and Alive. No matter what Alive would be a part of the set. If this ever happens it would be great because I think I might be the only one to choose the SB over PJ. It never will happen though because all the Nancies that call themselves fans would be outraged that they sold-out.#FHP0

I would be really upset to see Pearl Jam agree to play the super bowl halftime show. Not necessarily because of the corporateness of it, but just because it wouldn't seem fitting for a band as badass as Pearl Jam to play for ten minutes in front of a crowd that would vastly under appreciate the scene0

Doubt it would ever happen, but if so, I would say 3 4-minute adrenaline-pumping songs would be most likely.
I'd guess:
1. Alive (something old that everyone would recognize to kick it off)
2. Worldwide Suicide (their most current "hit")
3. Baba O'Riley (have to slip a cover in there; this one seems most appropriate to a Super Bowl halftime show)Everything has chains...Absolutely nothing's changed. - PJ

When I first started listening to PJ they were mainstream and appealed to the masses. Now they appeal to a certain crowd, those that actually have musical taste, and those who want to listen to a band that has matured and grown musically. It feels good to appreciate a band that puts their heart a soul into what they believe is musical progression and not what the music industry wants to sell.
Why would playing the Super Bowl equal corporate sell-outs? I understand that they would need to remove some drug references and maybe edit some bad words and even remove some political undertones. but I'm not sure it would really be a sell-out. They are artists and want to get their message out there and perform and just feed off the audience. The Super Bowl would be the best oppty for that.
I know what I just wrote sounds hypocritical, but I just don't think it would be selling out to perform at the half time showBuffalo - 1996; Montreal, Hartford - 1998; San Antonio - 2003; Milwaukee - 2006; Berkeley II - 2008; MSG I - 2008

so they would have to change around their work so they wouldn't offend people or represent ideals or ideas that the station hosting it doesn't want their name associatted with....and you don't understand why some people call this selling out???
i mean i see where both sides are coming from but as for me i don't mind if they do it. i would hate for the integrity of their songs to be comprimised because of it though0 -

I guess I should rephrase. The excitement of seeing them on that worldwide stage would be worth it to change around a song or 2. For some reason that doesn't truly equate to selling out to me, but if it does.. then i guess i'm ok with it.Buffalo - 1996; Montreal, Hartford - 1998; San Antonio - 2003; Milwaukee - 2006; Berkeley II - 2008; MSG I - 2008

There are few events as overwhelmingly commercialized as the Super Bowl. The whole spectacle is just one giant advertisement (the game, IMO, has become undeniably secondary). I would be *devastated* if Pearl Jam performed... it would run counter to everything they've stood for over the years that has won my upmost admiration and respect. For me, it would be on par with Eddie being a guest judge on American Idol or the band writing music for a film like "Pearl Harbor." Or them reconsidering their decision to not sell to Viagra the rights to "Alive." I'd still be a fan, but it would never be the same.
That said, I'd bet they'd play: Better Man, Daughter, WWS, Even Flow."You are everything, and everything is you. Me, you... you, me -- it's all related."0 -

What's the difference between that and Eddie appearing in Dewey Cox, writing songs for Into the Wild, appearing in Singles, licensing (might be a record company thing) a song for Guitar Hero, Jeff appearing on MTV's Rock and Jock B-Ball (pretty sure he did), putting a song on a soundtrack for a movie with a CGI penguin or re-writing a classic rock song into a catchy jingle?Buffalo - 1996; Montreal, Hartford - 1998; San Antonio - 2003; Milwaukee - 2006; Berkeley II - 2008; MSG I - 2008
