when you're purchasing stuff at the counter....

...and you're paying with cash, does it take you forever to put the change back in your wallet? If so, do you accomplish this task while everyone behind you waits patiently for you to move out of their way?

I do. I never think to move to the side before stuffing the cash back into my wallet. This generally causes a bit of a traffic jam.

The way I see it, the process of putting the cash back into my wallet is part of the overall purchasing process, and I shouldn't have to move to the side.

Am I being rude?

I don't think so. It would be nice if clerks would help these situations feel less awkward by not starting to ring the next person's items until you are done.

Lately, I've been feeling in the way, 'cause I bring my own bags to the store and it seems most of the clerks want me to bag my stuff while they ring the next person's items.

I will always move out of the way as it really bugs me when people do that.

It's a dilemma I see everyday. Here's the thing: I only think it's rude when the line behind you is long. This drives me nuts at Christmas. I also think that if you've waited in a long line and you're using checks you should go ahead and start filling it out by the time you've reached the registers. It's not difficult to do. It's just a consideration for everybody else.

BTW, that's just rude on the cashier's part.

No, you're not being rude... If you have the patience to wait for the person in front of you to finish up, then the person behind you probably will have too. And if they don't, well tough luck.

usually I go as quick as I can... UNLESS they try to speed up the process by being rude... in which case I could be likely to drop some money.... or ask them a question or something! I enjoy playing with people who are in a hurry :D

not really rude as such... its annoying though.

even worse is old grannies at the supermarket who take about 4 days to hunt out the exact fucking change from a purse that contains coins from Roman times... "is that a 5p luv? *ruffles around even more* is that a 20p? I dont like these new 20p's.. too small arent they? *ruffles more* so thats 47p.. how much more do I owe you?"

just give the cashier one of your many 20's you have eeking out of your purse you rich old hag... and have a shave while your at it.

    i actually feel better :)

I'm willing to bet they do it on purpose when there's impatient bastards like you behind them :p . They're probably pissed off with the pace of life these days and this is the only chance they get to slow it down... hats off to em :)

Yeah its ok for them when they have nothing better to do but the only chance I get to go to the shops is on my dinner break, and it is so frustrating when you are stuck behind some doddering old fool when I need to get back to work.

NO shops are open before I start work so that really isn't an option, most of the time I dont mind its just the odd time when I am really busy, thats when people really take their time. It's like they know.

I get more pleasure out of annoying impatient people than being in a book club :) It's funny!

i find it funny when people get concerned that the government is watching their every move... especially when you're not doing anything wrong. :)

Nothing is worse than someone writing a check IMO. A debit card is not hard. Put in your 4 number pin and hit OK.

arent all your purchases monitored by the government??? thats what you've said in the past... so it's relevant to the thread.

thanks for being the Mod of the Day winner though ;):D

writing cheques??? people still do that in the States? most of the shops here have refused them for a while now... obviously some will still take them but the bigger chains have phased them out.
