Lakers/Spurs WCF 2008 Thread

What is every NBA fan's take on the upcoming Western Conference Finals? Here's mine: Lakers in 5 or 6. Lakers have way too much talent for the Spurs. The combination of Kobe/Fisher and Phil nullify that "experience factor" that put the Spurs over the hump against NO. Add in Pau, Odom and the deepest bench in the NBA and you have a quick series. I don't think the Lakers will sweep but I don't see this series being all that close. Kobe, Fisher and Phil have had a lot of playoff success against the Spurs, this year will not be different.

Not sure I would consider myself an NBA fan, but these playoffs have been pretty fun. I gotta go with the Spurs.0
-
Don't count out the champs. I'd be really surprised if the series isn't 6 or 7 games. I actually like the Spurs to be honest. Nobody likes them, but they keep winning.Go Get 'Em Tigers!0

lakers in six0

Funny how people always count the Spurs out for some reason only to watch them slowly and methodically crush the will of other teams. Now, I hope like hell the Lakers can beat them, but I don't know why anyone would say the Lakers are going to win with any confidence. Sounds like a bold ass prediction to me.
Go Lakers!

Well, the two teams split the regular season games with the home team winning each time. Also, their regular season records were nearly identical, so I don't see a way to pick either team with any confidence.
That said, I'm pulling for the Spurs and predict the Spurs in 6. Only about 40% confident in that pick though as it will probably be a 7 game series.0 -
Spurs in six! Too bad would love to see a Lakers vs. Celtics heck even Pistons matchup.0

Spurs in 6
Lakers really surprised me this year, but the Spurs can smell the title. This is the furthest they have been, trying to repeat. After winning a game 7 on the road vs. IMO, a more dangerous overall team in the hornets.Lakers wouldn't even be here if the Fuckin Grizzlies didn't GIVE AWAY Gasol, for Kwame Brown????Duncan will play better in this series, and Lakers have no answers for Ginobli/Parker, Bowen can at least make Kobe work for his0 -
Spurs. Kobe wished he had the class that Duncan has in his big toe.All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.0

Robert Horry Hip Checks and 3pt shots to victory.
I'm hoping Kobe and co pull it out to save us from remarkably dull basketball in the finals.
Tony Parker dives more than Christiano Ronaldo. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
Lakers in 6!! who's gonna guard Kobe....Bowen? he's on another level...kobe n Gasol take it.being so KiND.. tO LEt me RiDe!!!0

Disagree w/this 100%.
I remember after 2 games vs NO, analysts were saying "This series is over". They won 4 of 5 from NO.
They went into the #2 seed's home building in game 7 and took care of business.
Spurs are the defending world Champions.
Spurs will win in 6 or 7, then lose to my Celtics in 7 games.
I want the Lakers to win though, so i can get Celtics tickets to game 5-Chris

Bowen has been able to contain Kobe to some degree for years. By the time the 4th quater starts Kobe is gonna be having a tough time getting his legs into his jump shots.Udoka is not bad as well.Gasol is skilled, but lets face it, he is kinda soft0 -

Gasol is great - on one end of the court. Too bad the Spurs inside presence can play at both ends...Idaho's Premier Outdoor Writer

Thats the whole thing. People think regular season ball is playoff ball...wrong. For years the Suns can score at will during reg. season...playoffs start they cant stop anyone. Thats what it is about, making stops late in a tight game. And I'm sorry Lakers just dont make enough defensive plays.Plus last 8 of 9 Champions have had either Shaq/Duncan on that team, and the only other year Shaq was in the finals against Detroit.
Hint Hint0 -
Would love to see fish make another 0.4 second shot in game 7.
It'd be great to see the celtic/laker rivalry re-emerge.
Spurs are soooo boring. Duncan is a great player, but he plays with the same passion he shows when he brushes his teeth.
GO LAKERS!!0
