ergonomics

my desk and chair are KILLING me. the desk is too high, the chair is too low. the chair cannot be raised any further (I think it's broken). I know a higher chair with footstool (because my feet don't touch) but I'm sort of afraid to ask for one. chairs are really expensive, and I don't want to be "that" person. But the past few weeks I've just been in pain in the back of my neck and shoulders, and just generally uncomfortable. what would you do?

about 15 years ago, I bought my mom a chair from an office store so she would not be more of a whiner than she already was! her boss was really awful and cheap.
ergonomics are so important.9/98, 9/00 - DC, 4/03 - Pitt., 7/03 - Bristow, 10/04 - Reading, 10/05 - Philly, 5/06 - DC, 6/06 - Pitt., 6/08 - Va Beach, 6/08 - DC, 5/10 - Bristow, 10/13 B'more

10/10 - Brad in B'more0 -
ask them for the new chair. it's completely reasonable to ask for things to do your job right, and being comfortable as you're sitting is part of it.
anybody else there says anything, fuck them, they were too stupid to ask lol0 -
I always ask for new stuff...asked for a flat-top LCD monitor at work because the glare was bugging me (not killing me though
)....got a new monitor in a week....

my dad just told me that everyone who works at a desk has pain in their neck or whatever but you just have to take it as it is expected.0

Posture and arm angle, etc., are all important if you don't want to injure yourself. Don't just let it build up to the point you've hurt yourself!
Get a different chair or bring a cushion or two to lift you up.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0 -

Well I found another one in the office to try out. it's a bit higher and less bouncy which is good, not sure how I feel about the seat angle.0 -

people should always ask for whatever they need so they can do their job reasonably. if you end up getting sick and can't work, then the employer ends up losing out a lot more, not to mention the employee hurting!0 -
chiquimonkey wrote:nice! well try it out for a day or two, see how it feels. perhaps the seat angle could be adjusted somehow if that's the only thing wrong with it.

oh they won't lose any money if I get sick. I haven't made a cent for them in weeks.0 -
