well I called to see if I could get in sooner. the woman kept asking me what it was for, so I just said I am having problems with my medication. I didn't know whatelse to say! So I have an appointment...maybe it will expedite things. I'm just hoping that it doesn't get me on the dr's black list!

Would you accept a bad mechanic? Or less than average service in any other area of your life?

Doctors are simply health care providers, not messiahs, you are more than entitled to ask for and get an earlier appointment if you feel that you need to be at the doctor sooner. If it gets you on the doctor's black list then I'd say you need a new doctor.

I'm glad you got the earlier appointment, now start writing down all the things you want to ask about.
    NOPE!!!

    Hold on to the thread

  • Make sure you ask to have blood work to see if there are problems that can't be detected by a general physical appt. At my last physical, I asked for blood-work because it was not included in my check-up, thus, I had to make another appt. elsewhere to have my blood drawn. Also, have you had your thyroid tested?

Hope you get some answers soon.

seriously - if you had an abnormal pap you REALLY need a OB/GYN. If you don't want to blindly pick one off your insurance list (understandable) call your primary care office and ask for a recommendation.

That is not something to mess around with.

    Good luck,

well after the abnormal pap I had the full work up- biopsy and everything and everything was fine-the suspected a lab error or something of the sort, so it's not as if I haven't taken that step yet. I did look for a gyn for months, but since I didn't have ANY doctors at that point, I couldn't just call for a referal/recommendation, and none of my friends go to a gyn. I was previously going to the student health center at the university I went to for grad school, so I didn't even have access to call there for info after I graduated. it wasn't a normal switching doctors situation.

Is it a Family Medicine doc you're going to see? If so, there's no need for an Ob/Gyn. Family Medicine docs are ALL trained to do paps and many of them are trained to do colposcopies/biopsies for abnormal paps. I've never been to a gynecologist. I prefer to get all my healthcare from the same person for the sake of continuity. But if you've had an abnormal pap before, even if you followed-up with a biopsy and it was all good, you should still be sure to get your furture paps on schedule. (Thanks for the reminder! :o)

And there's no reason to be intimidated by doctors. They're just regular people too. Sure, they're busy - but that's why it's probably helpful to be prepared with a list of specific issues to discuss. And there's no better time than during your first physical. Just get to your appointment a little early so they have time to put all your new patient information in the computer before it's time to actually see the doctor.

I hope all goes well! :)

i have a boil on my inner thigh that's grown so big in the last 4 days that it looks like a third nipple. i'm sure if it pops, pus will be oozing out and there's a chance it could get infected. don't need anything (else) infected down in that region. i may have to have this checked out.
