Why would you make life so difficult for yourself!? :p:D

People have asked me that before, is it really that weird?

Back in elementary school, we had little scissors with rubber on the handles. The right handed ones had red rubber, the left handed had green. Needless to say, there weren't so many green ones. I sometimes had a hard time finding green. As years went by, the green scissors became fewer and farther between and I said, "fuck it, I'm using red scissors....on my LEFT HAND!" To make a short story long, I sucked at it, but kept it up. I had to pull my thumb in and push my finger out, which wasn't natural. Now it just seems normal to me. You give me a left handed scissors, I won't know what to do.

funny, as a former art teacher and also a south paw, i made SURE i had LOTS of lefty scissors in my classroom, and really comfy scissors to boot. they were so nice, the righties wanted to use them. :p haha. now don't feel sorry for the righties b/c their scissors were awesome too, just that fiskars, the brand of scissors i bought/used......made the leftie handle different and a wee bit nicer, so no choice. i think it's VERy important for studets to feel success in art, and that includes the skill required to cut properly.

when i was a kid, i always used leftie scissors and could not for the life of me use rightie. however, as you get older they don't make leftie adult scissors i guess b/c they realize at that age you can adapt. so, now i exclusively use rightie scissors and cannot cut with leftie. my students used to get a kick out of that. :)

  • Eat, write, brush teeth, comb hair, cook (stir, flip etc), with left hand.

use scissors with right hand, and right arm is stronger.

  • I'm a righty but I kick better with my left in soccer.
  • And damn proud of it too. I do everything with my left hand, first.
Unfortunately I was taught how to knit, the "right way". Spit, cough cough.
    whatever. Grew up fairly ambidextrious(sp?).
Left handers are in their Right brain. It's easier for us to get accustomed to using our Right hands, compared to our Right handed fellow folks.

This was very clear to me, during Massage Therapy school. You cannot be a good therapist, using only one hand! You have to train your brain to use both sides of your own body equally, and to be effective in performing various techniques.

Baseball, in grade school, I hit the Bat either side of homeplate, right down right or left field. I also had a left handed baseball glove and was poked fun at by the boys, for having it.

  • i write right handed but can also write left handed, throw left handed, bat and kick with both, i played the violin(which is always a right handed instrument) for 13+years but i play the guitar left handed, i can eat with either hand, skateboard/snowboard leftie, shoot a basketball leftie but can dribble with both, golf rightie....can't think of anything else....so i guess this makes me ambedextrious???

    Right: Cut/ Scissors, Throw, Guitar
    Both: Batting

If it's a decent pair of scissors, you shouldn't need to push them together. If the blades are tight together, then they seem to cut ok, but if they aren't, then I do the same thing and push them together. I've never even used a pair of left handed scissors. The way scissors are designed means that if you use them with your right hand, the blades are pushed together, so it makes sense to try and do that when using them with your left.
