what good are "connections" when they aren't connections at all

just wanted to vent my neverending frustrations about connections that do me no good!!
My Dad's cousin's son is Rob Zombie....unfortunately his parents moved to CA and i haven't been able to get in touch with them. His dad is really cool and i was hoping to get him into helping me meet pearl jam.....hey ya never know right..but now thats gone.
Then today a guy I know tells me his son in law knows theo epstein...again, a possible pearl jam in but does me NO good.
*sigh* i guess if i am meant to meet them, it'll happen in it's own time and it's own way ;) if it never happens....thats ok too but it's so nice to dream about it ;)

    If you don't, you're going about this the wrong way. The way to get to do cool stuff like see sound check or go to the Bridge barbeque is not to sit on your duff and ho-hum about some obscure six degrees of separation thing. What good would Rob freakin' Zombie do you, anyway? Just because he's a famous musician means nothing.

    You have to get in with the guys who are with the band, whose names you don't know. Find out where the roadies- sorry, where the BAND TECHS- they hate to be called roadies, ya know- hang out around the shows. They usually travel in packs, and you'll recognize them.
    I feel it only fair to warn you, though, that these guys can smell it coming.

    Trust me on this one. Every time I've been around a band, especially this one, it has not been because of someone famous.

    Not sure how Mr. & Mrs. Cummings would help you meet Pearl Jam if they were still living in Haverhill, maybe they could have hooked you up with Rob or Spider next Thanksgiving, but don't see much of a connection to PJ outside of Ed and Rob having hung out together with Johnny Ramone before he passed.

    My aunt & uncle/my godparents are also the dude from Hinder's godparents. That somehow makes him my godbrother? Anyways, I couldn't even name one Hinder song...so it's completely irrelevant.

    why would you want a scheduled play date with PJ anyway? that would be so fuckin awkward... like those losers who bid on dinner with celebrities... as if they actually want to be there with them :rolleyes:

    or how those privelaged olsen twins got backstage just because of who they know...

    the fun of meeting them (i have yet to do so, but would assume) is the rarity of it and seeing them in their own element... my cousin met them all at a Royals baseball game once and had them sign a baseball... thats kindof a fun way to meet em id say

    so basically you just view people as what they can do for you? :o

    that's not a good way to be :( and ok, I know your posts were probably tongue in cheek and all but it must be pretty annoying for celebs when their far off relations or relations through marriage or their neighbours far off relation starts thinking they're entitled to favours :( I'd tell everyone to fuck off... and enjoy doing so! :)
