I'm not big on Valentines Day, but two years in a row I've been scheduled for THAT doctor's appointment on 2/14. Talk about a mood killer.
Ah, well. At least I remember the date of my last, ahem, exam.Walking can be a real trip

Some years we do something for Valentine's Day, some years we don't. This year happens to be a year that we're not doing anything. I've always seen it as a waste of money and we're both feeling too lazy to actually do any shopping for it this year.0

my boyfriend and I skipped it last year. both of us had birthdays the week before, and neither of us really got the point of it...we just watched a movie that night. no cards, nothing like that.0

we're going out to our favorite Thai place. Its super cheap but the food is awesome and then seeing Rent. We didnt plan to see it on valentines day, its just the day the tickets fell on. Other then that I might get him a card if I get a chance. We dong buy presents for valentines day. Its a forced holiday. I rather get a gift as a surprise any day then get something because he felt he had to.
There's way more important things going on in my life to worry about valentines day.0 -
When we were long distance we used to do a proper V-Day, with the bed and breakfast, and so on. Now that we are married it's part of our one night a week out together. I know it's a contrived day just to make rich people richer, but it's nice to be reminded that someone you care about is around.0

my wife and I dont really do much
I buy her the same box of chocolates from this ritzy shop in NYC
and she buys me chocolate covered gummi bears

i have a friend of mine who for 20 years has been feeding his wife the line....
"i dont need hallmark to tell me i have to buy you flowers and roses on a certain day....blah blah blah"
i never understood this....
why not just buy some flowers...roses...a nice card....dinner..blah blah blah...and have a nice romantic evening?????Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....0 -
We are
He leaves tomorrow morning for two days. We may catch a romantic breakfast on the way to the train station
When I chose my man, I made sure I picked one who would be happy to be surprised with thoughtful gifts once in a while, but would not "expect" any.
I try to reciprocate that virtue.... and the will to show I will always be better than before.0 -
My husband, being the stay-at-home parent, has no money to buy me anything for Valentine's day. So, yes, we're skipping it, too. If I can find a good deal on filet mignon, then we'll make that together for dinner. Also, I gave him a recipe for a dessert I wanted and I told him that's what I want for Valentine's day. We'll see what happens. I don't expect anythingI really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.0

My Wife and I have decided to ignore these corporate holidays. They just seem to be created to make people spend money on useless shit that just ends up in the garbage anyway. If you love someone and they love you why should only one day be used to show your affection. Do it everyday.Calgary 04/09/05, Las Vegas 06/07/06, The Gorge 22/07/06 23/07/060

I would rather celebrate her Birthday with more then waste it on V Day
Mine is the 18th, I usually get a little something one day or the other.
He gets a card.Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!0 -
Been married for 15 years, we haven't done anything special for Valentines Day for a long time. Seems a bit silly, puts way too much pressure on one day."You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

my bf and i are in the service industry (him:bartender, me:server)so we've always had to work that day. we usually come home exhausted, open a bottle of champagne and promptly pass out. luckily this year we both have jobs at the same fancy restaurant, so at least we'll be able to wave at each other while we're working. and to the people who talk about making a nice dinner at home, go with that plan!! seriously, v-day is the busiest day of the year for restaurants, do you really want to eat at a loud crowded place with frantic servers running around? just my two cents! ;-)0

It's a total waste of money in my opinion to go overboard
When I hear all these commercials they almost guilt you in to buying something
I didn't read any other post but this one. My friend at work has been married nearly 17 years. They don't want to spend the money on Valentine's, would rather do something "special" for no reason some other day of the year and tell each other they love the other every day. She did tell me that they go the card store on Valentine's, together....read cards and when they find one they like, they say "here's your card". When they're done reading, they put them back and leave. I thought that was the best idea ever!believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

..........then the hockey game
.....and home for dessert!

Mine is the 10th. I'm a firm believer in celebrating my birthday for the entire month. And that includes the 14th. Thursdays are Survivor Thirsty Thursdays with my mom - martinis, dinner, laughs. That's what I'm doing on Thursday - just another day in the month of my birthday.believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.
