I do want my Pearl Jam tour jinx to finally come to an end though... 5 years is a long time!PORTLAND - 18 JUL 98 // TAMPA - 12 AUG 00 // PORTLAND - 02 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 05 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 09 DEC 02

My immediate response was to look into airfares, etc., but then, my logical mind took over. As much as I love seeing the band, it doesn't make sense to shell-out over $1,000 to fly/drive just for a few shows.0

Even if you are just playing a role it's nice to see someone who is not telling me, or my neighbors, to chill out, relax or suck it up.
I live in the seventh largest city in the country and they have played here once.
Ever.
Just one time.
I have traveled to see this band for more than half of my life and I'm used to it by now. It would just be nice to see them in my home state again. I'd like to be able to drive, and not 23 hours each way again to South Carolina like in 1996.
There are Pearl Jam fans in Texas. We buy tickets to shows and we have money to spend. We are diverse. There are pockets of blue everywhere. Before the Bush/Rove machine steamrolled our state, Ann Richards was our governor.
I don't know what the reasons are, I just hope they will play here again sometime soon.0 -
Jeanwah wrote:I hate the animosity too. People tend to forget that Pearl Jam are people with lives and families who can't please everyone all the time, and that's OK. As fans we should know better than being so self-centered as to think that the band's got to please everyone!
More and more, people rely way too much on the band for their happiness!0 -

I agree. It makes sense to do that if the shows are part of a vacation where you're doing other things besides seeing them, which is what Chicago and LA were for me the previous two summers.Reading 2004

Most of the complaints coming from Americans are bollocks.
You live in America you have an opportunity to go see them go do it.
If I wanted to go to the Madison Square Garden show in the US it would cost $2000 in flights alone. Let alone accommodation food and tickets.

DaytimeDilemma wrote:Entitlement? It's just I've given so much for this band and the fact is they haven't played anywhere near where I've been living for the PAST FIVE YEARS. Like what the hell? Every major touring act comes through the south...why the hell can't Pearl Jam?
I've flown to differet cities just to see them. I've done that. Now one time when it may not be feasible, all I ask is why can't they actually tour America? Why just one particular region? I'm sorry a show in Houston or New Orleans might now sell out in three minutes, but it will sell out. They haven't been here since the FUCKING RIOT ACT TOUR and are about to record another new album. It's so retarded.
If you are going to tour the country, then tour the freaking country. Don't play ten dates in major markets and call that a tour. Radiohead, U2, the Chili Peppers, and all the huge bands know that a number of fans don't primarily live in these select regions. I don't understand how Pearl Jam can just skim over the lower half of the United States like it doesn't exist.
I can understand that some people are angry because they haven't seen a Pearl Jam show in their area IN YEARS!!!! That is mind boggling for possibly the biggest band in America, in my opinion.
At least you live in America.
And biggest band in America? Bollocks, no they're not, far from it. Certinally a hot demand for tickets, but not so big that they can afford to tour everywhere.0 -

Just remember people when you are all famous musicians playing to huge sold out crowds that you think its only fair they play everywhere all the time 24/7... Oh wait, whats that? you're not a big supa rock star?? Oh.. you don't know what its like?? oh... you're just sad that they can't be in bumblecrap nowhereland on the day you need them to be???
Looky here people.. atleast they are still TOGETHER, RECORDING, and TOURING a lot of other people's favorite bands aren't as such.. Complaining about it won't get you to the shows..
Best Post of the Year....I was thinking, I cut my tour teeth chasing the Grateful Dead around the county for about 7 years. Sure, it was great knowing that you could bank on 70 + shows a year, but in reality, out of all those shows, maybe 10-12 of them were great. Pearl Jam delivers EVERY FUCKING NIGHT. Sure, Im pissed that no Missoula shows or Gorge shows were announced (and I cant afford to travel out East this year), but hey, I know that the EV shows and these 10 dates will be stupendous! This brings me piece of mind.I hold the pain, release me!0 -

True, but they did skip GOLD CITY from 93-98, so there was a PJ famine!0 -

But... Indio and San Diego were still within striking distance, right? Meaning, you can make the round trip and avoid an overnight stay.
And they've made up for that with the last 3 major tours.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

"Roo truly was a gamble....as no one knew anything else. We were willing to go there, too - but we are not a fan of Festivals (nor Metallica) - when our only true goal was to see Pearl Jam. Seemed like a lot of hardship - and walking for miles on end (which I don't mind the exercise) and camping and we can't afford VIP nor an RV. Without this announcement today - we risked not seeing them at all. It just worked out (if we can get tickets). More to come (I hope) for those states not announced today. On paper, and in theory, yes they were.
HOWEVER, schlepping out to Indio on a Friday night would have caused me to slit my wrists, and, we were pulling into our Hotel in San Diego when they announced the gig cancellation in 96 (?).
I reckon I just didn't want it that bad!0 -

Indio was a drag... mostly because of the tons of a-holes.
And San Diego... i was driving down the 405 and heard on KROQ that the gig was cancelled. I got off the freeway and called 91X to verify... yup.
So, we had some breakfast and headed back to O.C.
Turns out... that was a good thing. The girl I was seeing back then would have HATED the show and bitched about wanting to leave the whole time.
By the time of the re-scheduled show at the Sports Arena... we'd split up and I ended up selling my spare to the kid at the taco joint in San Diego who was planning to run over to see if he could buy a ticket after his shift. He was estatic and i got some free food.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
