tonight's debate

MattyJoe wrote:No, they don't. Canada and Britain, for example, can barely pay for their systems. They are extremely behind the United States as far as medical research and adopting new treatments for cancer and other conditions because they can't even afford it. There are ridiculous waiting periods for even the most basic medical procedures, like pulling teeth, let alone a heart transplant which requires up to 17 months wait. They have people wasting away for days in Emergency rooms without getting treatment.
What incentive does a person have to go to medical school to work their asses off for 10 years, paying $50,000 and up for tuition, only to come out, work for the government, and make a measly salary. Why do these people not deserve the money they earn by putting in the work required? They wouldn't be able to practice privately. it would spell the end of not only quality medical treatment in America, but the end of any kind of medical research. Cancer research doesn't come from Canada, or the UK, or Cuba. It comes from America, through the work of PRIVATE ENTERPRISES.
Doesn't seem like we agree with too many things that have come up on this board, but that argument does resonate. I guess my take on it would be that we need to better fund the citizenship's ability to afford health care while still maintaining the benefits of higher pay for those willing to train for as many as ten years to succeed and excel in the medical profession.
Of course, if I had the answer on how to actually do that, I would be on stage tonight...avoiding questions and lying through my teeth.
But, alas...0 -

"No touching!"
Does anyone find it disingenuous to say, "If Iran gets nuclear weapons, all the other mid-eastern countries will too."
You think the reason these nations don't have them is because they don't want them? What? Is Iran going to sell their secret to what would be dominance over the region? Where is the reasoning?
That said, I do not want Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. In fact, we need to eighty-six that shit world-wide.0 -

I was hoping for a stronger stance tonight also but I don't think it's coming. McCain is the aggressor and needs to be and i gather obama is playing off of that aggression.
Maybe some fireworks if things get personal. McCain is holding is own but he knows he has to be tonight.

callen wrote:works in all other westernized countries....I'll take germany's healthcare over ours any day...
And what about Germany's tax rate?
In Euro (single)
0 Up to 7,664
15% 7,665-52,152
42% 52,153-250,000
45% 250,001 and over
the 52K mark is a big jump in taxes, and cost of living is a lot higher there as well.
And their health care is not all inclusive.
USA Tax in Dollar (single)
10% $0 – $8,025
15% $8,026 – $32,550
25% $32,551 – $78,850
28% $78,851 – $164,550
33% $164,551 – $357,700
35% $357,701+
Here is my math.....
42% of 60K=25K vs 25% of 60K=15K.
I don't know about you, but I don't have an extra 10,000$ to give to the government, even if it means I get the best healthcare possible.
Please correct my math or my thinking if I'm wrong, this was some quick figuring. I won't get pissy if you have a good point.BRING BACK THE WHALE0 -

McCain didn't go after Ayers, Wright ...
Obama didn't need to do anytihng but stay on message ... as stated, a draw is a win at this point."You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91
