Bombing Iran would be unbelievably stupid. That'd make it a 3 front war.

They will not bomb Iran. That would be an even bigger mistake than they've already made.

It's really, really, really not worth the cost.

Iran is on the backburner. I give it 10-12 years for the cons to pull off another Iraq.

I don't believe Bush/Cheney are that stupid to start a military campaign against Iran... not with our military in such a precarious situation in Iraq. In order to successfully mount a military strategy against Iran... we would have to first vacate Iraq. Chances are, an invasion in Iran by U.S. military forces will incite the Shi'ites in Iraq... you know, the ones we've placed into power over there... and the ones who we are arming and training over there. We cannot run forward operations bases against Iran from Iraq. Afghanistan, Yes... Iraq, No. But, we'd need to get back into Afghanistan and spend about 3 years cleaning that place up.

I can't believe that even Bush is THAT stupid.

I completely agree with you but what does worry me is Israel bombing Iran. That would undoubtably pull us into a conflict with Iran because god knows we can't turn our back on Israel.

That would be foolish as well. Any attack on Iran by Israel would undoubtably be traced back to us.

You know what? Fuck Israel. If they want to start that shit, that's their call. We need to quit being Israel's 'YesBitch'. Last time I checked... Israel was not the 51st state of the Union. They want to throw down with Iran... fine. That's THEIR fight, not ours.

I agree but you know the reality of it is if Israel does something we will come to their side.

sure but we wouldnt waste our manpower and the people back home would probably support sending arms and supplies to Israel. the arms dealers are happy, Bush is happy, Israel is happy, Americans won't pay attention...its a WIN/WIN for everybody!

Now i have to get back to digging out my bunker...

What do you think all those armed Shi'ites in Iraq would do. You think they hate us now. Their hatred for us would multiply a thousand fold if Israel attacked Iran and we supported them. Our troops would be in even more danger than they are now.

Isnt this how this whole Irak thing got started way back in the 80's?

i doubt they can hate us any more than they do now. They already know we support Israel and hate Iran. Plus Iran would probably be to busy fighting Israelis to fully support the insurgency in Iraq.

this is sounding more and more likely the more i think about it.

I remember it being immediate support. Remember, the Iranian Hostage Situation occurred in November of 1979. The U.S. had naval forces in the Persian Gulf, Iran had planted mines near the Straits of Hormuz... Ayatollah Khomeini was the greatest threat (after the Soviet Union). The U.S. supported the secular Hussein, rather than the radical fundamentalists of Iran. The problem we ran into was the Soviet Union was also supplying Iraq with conventional weapons. We provided intelligence and recon in the beginning and chemical weapons and artillery in the coming years.

yeah i think thats right. actual weapons werent sent until 82, two years after the war started, once it became clear Iraq would lose (i was wrong about them not getting there until 84).

We HATED Iran. That's why it cracks me up when I hear numbnut assholes crying, "But Saddam Hussein used CHEMICAL WEAPONS" as justification for invading Iraq in this go 'round. Yeah... he used them... on IRAN... as Americans cheered. "Fuck Iran" was the battle cry of the Reagan 1980s. So, to those numbnut assholes... I'm looking at you, Bill O'Fucking-Reilly... don't twist history to fit your bullshit opinions.
