Anyone have a good reason as to why prices are soaring right now? The station by my house is $0.04 higher every time I drive by.

For goodness sake - stop driving by it! ;)

    let's see:

    snow storms...
    saber rattling by Iran...
    supply and demand...
    cause we feel like it...
  • Spring's coming kiddo. Demand goes up, and so do prices.

I am going with "cause we feel like it" as the possible correct answer.

oil prices actually are down some today.

The decline in oil prices suggested traders were juggling twin concerns -- falling supplies versus slowing economies in the United States and elsewhere.

Light, sweet crude for April fell 49 cents to $61.30 a barrel in late morning trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude slipped 35 cents, trading at $61.54 on London's ICE futures exchange.

On Wednesday, prices hit a two-month high following a U.S. government report that stockpiles of gasoline and distillates, which include heating oil and diesel fuel, dropped last week by a larger amount than analysts had forecast.

Iran's persistent refusal to suspend its nuclear program has also been a driving force behind the energy market's advance.

Prices, however, were retreating less precipitously than on Tuesday, when they reacted to a sharp fall in U.S. share prices on worries about an abrupt economic slowdown. The fall was triggered partially by a 9 percent drop in Chinese shares amid speculation that Beijing may take further steps to slow China's rapid growth.

    give it up.
  • how bizarre to see gas prices fluctuate....
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

I'm gonna go w/ because more or less...its a monopoly. and its a scarce resource. They can do whatever they want...they just have to disguise the price increases.

    I have noticed as well....

I mean...Exxon posted a record profit this last year....Billions and Billions of dollars.

It's funny...when the price of oil drops..the gas prices go down so slowly it's unbelievable...but when the price of oil goes up, they rape us with the price of gas.

well, you see, it's all about supply and demand...they have the supply and we have a demand, therefore, they can use any excuse the want to raise the price...

in anticipation of the "well, don't use their product" people...if you could use your genius to explain how someone can realistically (<---note this key word) not use their product...please share...

that's what I hate... a couple months back oil went down like $10-$15 a barrel pretty quickly... gas prices trickled down a few cents a week. Recently oil has gone up like $5 a barrel, and prices went up a quarter in a week. The gas in the tank cost what you paid for it... just because crude went up, that doesn't effect the price of the fuel that you already bought.

Maybe when gas prices drop again, I should take my receipt back to the station and ask for the difference back.
