    None of this ultimately is going to stick. I hate to say it, but Bush is kinda loving all the demonization from the left, and from the right...even better.

    It is martyring him (so to speak) in the eyes of the middle east. They think wow this guy is one seriously sick dude. He's unstoppable. America is unstoppable. There's some scary dudes in America that will flatten us if we piss them off. Maybe don't poke at the sleeping lion. Even his own people are scared of him. hmm.

    See how it works?

    Would you like to swap the middle east for America and have them play their war games over here? Or maybe some other country?

    Obviously there is a balance, but 9/11 either way, was a method to take the leading edge and make the first move so to speak. Peak oil is coming no doubt about it.

    It's really all a global population v.s. avail resources issue.

    The US will go alternate energy, and have fossil if needed. Mostly everyone else will be mainly on fossil fuels to survive.
    Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
    and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
    over specific principles, goals, and policies.

    This line made me think about another issue. If the U.S. wanted to eliminate/humble many of its current political foes, what better way than to come up with an alternative energy source ? Countries like Venezuela, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq(formerly) and others all rely on income from OIL to support their economies and any activities deemed nefarious by the U.S. gov't. So you not only become energy self-sufficient, but you remove the political opposition's stock-in-trade. Why hasn't the U.S. made the shift ? (thats partly a rhetorical question).

    It's all strategic in my opinion. When solar/wind etc.. eventually does come into play in the US, it will mean more oil to sell to other countries and continue to ride the dominance trend. What we have now is early bird gets the worm so to speak. I think some really thorough peak oil forecasts were done, and they discovered there was no choice but to make the first move.

    Alternative means of power already exist, but the oil industry has it locked up.

    I totally agree with you. And I wouldn't be surpised if the U.S. gov't under GWB gets a hold of clean energy, gain as much control of it now while it's new as he can, and possibly keep selling it as oil at the price that oil is, and completely fooling the public that we were still using fossil fuels, when it actually runs out. It's a conspiracy theory right now, but I wouldn't put it past the current administration.
