Former NSA Director: "By any measure the US has long used terrorism"
Has the U.S. Government ever used terror?

Well, the New York Times has documented that Iranians working for the C.I.A. in the 1950's posed as Communists and staged bombings in Iran in order to turn the country against its democratically-elected president (see also this essay).

And, as confirmed by a former Italian Prime Minister, an Italian judge, and the former head of Italian counterintelligence, NATO, with the help of the Pentagon and CIA, carried out terror bombings in Italy and blamed the communists, in order to rally people's support for their governments in Europe in their fight against communism. As one participant in this formerly-secret program stated: "You had to attack civilians, people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple. They were supposed to force these people, the Italian public, to turn to the state to ask for greater security."

Moreover, recently declassified documents show that in the 1960's, the American Joint Chiefs of Staff signed off on a plan to blow up AMERICAN airplanes (using an elaborate plan involving the switching of airplanes), and also to commit terrorist acts on American soil, and then to blame it on the Cubans in order to justify an invasion of Cuba. If you view no other links in this article, please read the following ABC news report; the official documents; and watch this interviewwith the former Washington Investigative Producer for ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings (click link entitled "Joint Chiefs Guilty-Northwoods").

In addition, the FBI had penetrated the cell which carried out the 1993 world trade center bombing, but had -- at the last minute -- cancelled the plan to have its FBI infiltrator substitute fake power for real explosives, against the infiltrator's strong wishes (summary version is free; full version is pay-per-view).

And the anthrax attacks -- which were sent along with notes purportedly written by Islamic terrorists -- used a weaponized anthrax strain from the top U.S. bioweapons facility, the Fort Detrick military base. Indeed, top bioweapons experts have stated that the anthrax attack may have been a CIA test "gone wrong"; and see this article by a former NSA and naval intelligence officer. It is also interesting that the only congress people mailed anthrax-containing letters were key democrats, and that the attacks occurred one week before passage of the freedom-curtailing Patriot Act, which seems to have scared them and the rest of congress into passing that act without even reading it. And it might be coincidence, but White House staff began taking the anti-anthrax medicine before the Anthrax attacks occurred.

Even the former director of the National Security Agency said "By any measure the US has long used terrorism. In `78-79 the Senate was trying to pass a law against international terrorism - in every version they produced, the lawyers said the US would be in violation"(the audio is here).

You will notice on page four that there is a list of steps to be taken to anger and alienate Japan, in the hopes that Japan takes aggressive action against the US, which can then be used to justify the US entering WW2. After this list, it is written "If by these means Japan could be led to commit an overt act of war, so much the better."

Why don't they teach this in history class?

Here is another example of covert military action that is similar to "false-flag" activities, although it is not quite the same. The death of Che Guevara is now more widely recongnized as the work of the CIA, although for many years the US media blamed Castro and other communist forces in Latin America. Here is the government document that proves, beyond any doubt, that the US was instrumental in Guevara's murder.

While it is true that Guevara was killed by a bolivian hit squad, they were trained by the CIA. From the document: "The bolivian unit engaged is the one that we have been training for some time."

So what does this all mean? The US government has a history of terrorism, murder, and complete disregard for human life, even that of its own citizens. And where has the media been this whole time?

i would also like to add it is proven (even from US military websites) that the US military and CIA performed several experiments on unknowing US citizens (and in other countries, too) like testing chemical and biological agents.

After seeing the press conference this afternoon especially, I just can't believe how our govt can said with a straight face that what we do is any different than what these so called 'terrorist' groups do. This shit needs to stop and it should start with us. How can we tell others what to do when we commit the same crimes over and over again and always have? The only difference is our sales pitch is much more cleverly disguised.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I believe it. It's just one more example of this stuff. When has any nation ever gone to war for what they thought they did? The germans didn't think they were trying to dominate the world. That was Hitlers scheme and the SS. They thought they were being liberated, same kind of stuff. They just got a hell of a lot better at it.

There have been some links in the past to left leaning web sites that often I see as more opinion than fact, and yet reported as fact. I try to be critical in all my judgements from either side because it is too easy to believe the lies, and I don't want to believe any lies. Just give me the truth.

But, I have no reason to doubt these links, for the most part. So, assuming this is truth I have made a judgement that illustrates a difference why our 'terrorism' is different.

When we think of terrorism we typically think of the Islamic terrorists who blows up things, themselves, and other people. Then someone from some group claims responsibility. In Iraq even if they don't claim responsibility everyone still knows who the perps are, ie the insurgents of Sunnis or Shiite clans, or Al Queda.

But, when we covertly influence situations with means that could be qualified as terrorism, we don't take credit. That is because we are trying to influence parties affected by the act, with covert means. We are trying to create a perception of reality rather than reality.

This analysis and the fact that our terroristic acts seem to number less than the typical market bomber is a big difference. Not saying we should do it, or that it is right. My point is that we need to be clear with the words we use when we define our brand of terrorism vs the common terrorist we see daily. We justify their acts of terror if we call these acts documented here as terrorism. Maybe it makes no real difference to some, but I think it does when you are trying to absolve the act of terrorism as a normal political or military act.

If we had done a covert act that caused for Iraq to turn against Sadam and overthrow his government that would then institute a secure and democratic govt I think most would agree that would have been a better option than the one we chose.

But, the root problem here is that we know that our govt is also dirty and has persons in it that do not judge rightly. If it wasn't for JFK, apparently they would have taken down US commercial planes in the 60's to justify an attack on Cuba.

All I am saying is that the terminology 'acts of terror' can be used with a broad stroke, but we probably shouldn't think of these documented covert acts as terrorism, even if the actual act was terrorism used to achieve the covert goal. This is nothing more than our government getting involved in covert acts where we don't have any right to be involved, which is really a whole different issue than what we and the rest of world is facing with market bombers and killers w/o regard for human life. And in my opinion this doesn't justify the acts of terror we see daily in Iraq and etc.

Both are wrong, but they are different.
